End Of League Session Banquets, What Does Your League Operators Do For You?

Who knows now with our come-back League Operator

We did not get much with our previous league operator. I understand that we have a former league operator coming back in running things. I am hoping very much that things do change as I don't find it very rewarding as the league itself.

I do get intangible rewards in playing with other players and teams. But that is on a individual experience. I really wish I could help, but I do enuff helping around in my community that i rarely find time for anything else.
Which makes me wonder if the league operator simply doesn't have the funds to facilitate these sorta things.

The other community league operator that I play for is doing well, and at least offers a banquet after each session.

Like I said, although the former league operator has come back, he has ran it well from what I heard. I am just hoping he will make it more rewarding than it currently is.

I REALLY hope someone from the APA reads this forum, because our league operators do LESS than nothing................

I am from Southern Illinois and our League Operators are from Missouri. I have yet to see them in person. The only singles events that are ever available are always in Missouri.

My team played for the title last session and we had no score sheets and no trophy's. We had to keep score on plain paper and trust everyone on their handicap.

I really fee that ALL league operators need to "give back" to their players regardless if it's a banquet or some sort of other perk...

We have 3 differet league operators in the area.

All of them bring in food which is pretty good. Two of the three have a Monte Carlo with gambling so they can win back your league winnings. The other one puts on a scotch doubles tournament instead.

Awards party

Every year The Cascade Pool league(BCAPL) in Portland Metro Area has an awards party. Awards to the teams & awards for many individule feats & to MVP'S are given out. Embriodered Shirts Plaques to division winners, $2-3,000 of Gifts and prizes, $100's of dollars to Dinners for two at local eaterys, Embroidered Jackets for perfect attendence for 5 years (many have recived them already 3 people are getting them this year). All Captains get some type of shirt or gift to reward them for running thier teams and keeping up stats. Custom pool was table given away two years ago worth $3800 retail. This years it is a trip raffle to Mexico/Hawaii for two, and a $5 buffet at party (no steak or lobster but ribs and chicken). The payouts to teams average around $15,000 for a 30 plus team league & all get paid back based on points. We have a 19 week season with includes a 5 week team skill level tournament. $1000 Added money to a midseason league tournament. just a few things iam proud to say that we do in Cascade pool league.:)

I play in a APA on wenesday nights and the only thing so far in the last 6 years I have seen them give are trophy's to first and second place, whixk they do just as soon as the match is over.

It would be nice if the league operator would hold a banquet and present the trophy's at that time, I believe that would help him out a little in the long run by giving something, as small as, a free meal back to the players.

No money, cold bar-b-que and pizza, flat beer and a trophy that doesn't make it past the trash can before I enter the house.

That's what the league gives us at the end of the session.

On the other hand, the bar owner of the place we play out of, pays our league dues, gives us free booze all the time and pays us $40 for a table run.
He puts Simonis on his tables and opens them up for free play anytime we come around.

Also, he backs us individually or as a team if anyone challenges us. Loves to see us in action.

He is definitely one of the good guys.

my LOs reward us by forcing us to play the finals on badly maintained tables with aramith balls with black spots of residue on them. It's a shame. We lost the first round due to many factors, most of which were our fault, but a lot of them had to do with the environment. It's a bad luck situation when your LO also owns a crappy pool hall/dart bar.

Free pool all night.

Buffet style meal, Chinese food or something.

No money.

Trophies or engraved mugs.

Th-th-thats all folks!!

Our APA LO has a nice banquet, usually with a theme, Cowboys, Hawaii, etc. He has small gifts for every one, T-shirts, Pocket markers and has a pro or celeb do an exhibition. We had Dr. Cue last time. Really nice.

I have an in house league with anywhere from 12 -20 teams, $10 per week per person, 4 play.

a small amount goes in my pocket for running the league.

Brian...How DARE you make a (shudder) PROFIT, at the expense of your league players??? :D :D :D j/k, my friend! Hope to see you back in Richmond very soon!

FWIW...many years ago, when I was an APA L.O. in MT & ID, I always told my players upfront, that I was pocketing $1 per player, out of the $5/player that they paid each week. That was in exchange for a fun, fair league (NO sandbagging at all), good sportsmanship (required all players to sign an agreement prior to playing in the league), and a fair shot at an all-expense paid trip to nationals. I never had any complaints from any players. There was also an end of the year banquet, with free food and beer.
