End patterns stink...

How do I improve my end game pattern recognition? I have been running balls well, but seem to screw up the last few balls.

You want to try and select an end pattern which minimizes cue ball movement as much as possible. Stop shot on set up ball to a stop shot on key ball, or something close to stop shots, in other words easy position shots..

Identify them early.

Find an easy end pattern that works well with your skills and abilities. Many players get in trouble because they leave their comfort zone. If you watch some of the great players, it is NOT that they make everything seem so simple - it is that they KEEP everything so simple. Remember that.

If you go back and watch some of the evaluations that I have posted on Veoh and youtube, you will see that I always tell the player to look at what is there and what isn't there. Do that after every shot. Plan and then execute. Always re-evaluate.

There are different end patterns, but the best and most reliable are the ones that have balls that connect together with stop shot position.

I would recommend that you take some video of yourself playing 14.1. I don't need a large run on tape - in fact I want to see the mistakes that you make on a regular basis. Most of the time I watch players shoot away key balls much too early - or they shoot off and eliminate balls that will make their end patterns easier.

This could or could not be the case.

Take the video - send it to me and I will take a look at the way you are clearing off the table. I guarantee you that we can identify whatever it is that is holding you back.

Someone on here (can't remember who unfortunately) gave me the idea to rack 6 balls, break them softly and then work an end pattern out of those. It has helped a lot!!

Also all of Blackjack's videos are incredible!!

Blackjack -

Thanks for the offer. I will try to video tape once the basement is finished. I just put up my Diamond light and and getting my drywall fixed.

Went back and found out who gave me the 6 ball advice - it was 3andstop on here.

I've having the same problem. When I sit in the chair and watch someone else run the table I can see the patterns clearly. Part of the problem; too much time in the chair against a much better player. I been lectured about taking key balls too early but when I get out of line and have no other shot I take them. When I try to get back on line it just gets worse! I think my lack of controlling the cue ball needs to be fixed before I can take it to the next level. "Blackjack, it is NOT that they make everything seem so simple - it is that they KEEP everything so simple. Remember that." So true but so hard.
