Seems like the inaugural event of this Asian 9ball ladies tour will kick off tomorrow (April 26-28).

Looks like all the Asian stars will be there, including..."World Women's Champion Ga Young Kim of Korea, Rubilen "Bingkay" Amit, Mary Ann Basas, Irish Ranola and Johanna Dee of the Philippines, Jennifer Chen and Shin-Men Liu of Chinese-Taipei, Akimi Kajitani of Japan, Desak Kasih Aryati and Nova Floura Rachmawati of Indonesia, Pan Xiao Ting and Zhou Meng Meng of China, Chai Zeet Huey and Hoe Shu Wah of Singapore."

Don't know too much about this tour. Does this tour in any way prevent Ga Young Kim and Pan Xiao Ting from participating in the WPBA events? How many more events this year are planned for this tour? I'm guessing women from non-Asian countries cannot participate on this tour.

The qualifier round started on 25 April, and there are many Taiwanese and Japanese players trying to qualified.

This has nothing to do with the WPBA as far as I know.

It is only for Asian women. They invited some of the players you mentioned to participate so things are all set up very professionally for these players.

I do not know if there is a web site, I can try to post some updates if possible.

This event is boardcast live on the IBC 13 TV station all over the Philipines.

Qualifier is race to 7, alternate break, double elimination; the actual tournament plays race to 9, alternate break, double elimination, and finals and semis are race to 9.

First price is USD$10,000, second place USD$5,000, then it goes down to $2500, $1500 and so on.

Puyat Sports Inc, Solar Entertainment and Nature’s Best Products are proud to invite all professional female pool players from Asian countries to participate in the “ENERVA Ladies 9-ball Championship.” The tournament will be held on April 25 to 28, 2006 in Manila and it will be aired live over IBC-13 on April 26-28, 2006.

This event will serve as a forerunner in preparation for the Doha Asian games in December. The tournament will be sanctioned by the Asian Pocket Billiard Union. The event particulars are as follows:

1. Participants: There will be 16 seeded players and 16 open slots available for a total of 32 players on the main tournament.

1.1 Seeded Players: The 16 seeded slots will be distributed as follows:

2 Philippines (Host)

2 Chinese Taipei

2 Malaysia

2 Indonesia

2 Singapore

2 Thailand

2 China

1 Korea

1 Japan

16 Total

1.2 Qualifiers: The remaining 16 slots will be filled through a qualifying session on the 25th of April, just before the main tournament. Qualifiers must come from other Asian countries particularly those which will be participating in the DOHA Asian Games. Participating countries including those with seeded players may send as many players as they wish for the Qualifying round.

Format: The qualifying session will be double elimination. The matches will be race to seven racks alternate break. There will be an entry fee of U.S. $70 for the Qualifying rounds.

2. General Conditions:

2.1 The event will be held and completed within a 4-day time frame including the qualifiers on the first day (April 25, 2006)

2.2 The matches for the main tournament will be race to nine racks double eliminations, alternate break. The semi-finals and the finals will be race to eleven (11), alternate break. There will be a shot clock of 40 secs. with one 30 sec extension per rack.

3. Prize Structure:

The prize money will be distributed as follows:

Champion U.S. $10,000

Runner-up 5,000

Semi-finalists (2 ) 2,500 each 5,000

5th and 6th place (2) 1,500 each 3,000

7th and 8th place (2) 1,000 each 2,000

9th- 12th place (4) 750 each 3,000

13th-16th place (4) 500 each 2,000

Total: U.S.$30,000

4. Airfare and Accommodations: Players must pay for their own airfare and accommodations. The official Hotel will be the Holiday Inn Galleria Manila (adjacent to the venue) room rates will be as follows:

U.S. $70 net including breakfast for single or double occupancy.

Players who will be joining the qualifying session must arrive on the 24th of April and the seeded players must arrive on the 25th of April. Please provide your flight details and room requirements as soon as possible to facilitate airport pick-up and room reservations.

5. Confirmation: Interested players must fill out and return the confirmation form attached to this letter at least one week before the event. The deadline of submission of entries will be on April 17, 2006. Photos and profiles will also be appreciated. Confirmation forms may be returned via email.
 
2 seeded Players from China are Zhou Meng Meng and Li Jia.

There were 12 Taiwanese, 11 Japanese and many from the Philippines and other Southeast Asian countries participated in the qualifying tournment on April 25. As I know, 9 of 16 qualifiers are from Taiwan.

Li Jai is quite fluent in Japanese and plays regularly in Japan although she is originally from Mainland China. She is the only girl representing China as far as I know.
