Engert qualifies for Reno

Ouschan bests Engert in a hill-hill battle early on, then makes it to the winner side final only to lose to Joern Kaplan (?) 2-10.

Engert has his revenge though in the B side final, topping Jasmin by 10-6.

Personally I'm glad Thomas qualified for Reno. His talent was missed in Vegas where he could've been a threat. I'm sure he's not happy about missing out on those tour card qualifying points either.

Thomas will be a wonderful addition in Reno, and I'm sure where all aware that he is capable of a high finish, also capable of winning the whole thing. He will certainly make the German contingent even stronger.

I read this as you - and maybe many more - don´t know Joern Kaplan.

Imo he is one of the strongest german players atm, especially at 8ball.
I saw him playing at several tournaments in my pool hall (including the IPT qualifier) and can´t remember that I ever saw anyone playing 8Ball better...
He is just not well known outside of germany.
But I am sure, this will change after Reno!

Don´t be surprised if he finishes as best german player there...

Engert will be a force to be reckoned with at the Reno event. He has ran 490 balls in 14.1 and it has been said he can roll out of bed and run 200 half asleep.

Does anyone know how good his break is in 8 ball?

When he was playing in the qualifier here, he broke quite soft.
He didn´t like the results, on the second day it became better though.

His break isn´t his best stroke.
If you can beat him, it´s likely because of his break

Based on what I have read and seen you have to have a sledge hammer break to go all the way. We shall see.

I dont think a sledgehammer break is the answer.

On Friday I was watching 2 games at the IPT in Vegas at the same time. On one table Larry Nevel (big guy) just destroyed the balls on the break and nothing fell.

Then on the other table Dennis Occullo had a medium speed break and kept making balls on the break...ran 5 racks in a row on Ralf Souquet..go figure..

That's very interesting, I also heard that a medium break was the answer. It's definitely gonna make for some tougher runouts without a great spread, but you can't runout at all if you have a dry break;)
