That was very good. Years ago I used to go to a place caller "The House of Pegasus" It was a coffee house, Bob Dylan even hung there for a while before he was anybody, and guys would get up and read long poems similar to what you wrote as social and political commentaries. Thanks I enjoyed it.

The best way to get those who want to do nothing but bad mouth to shut up is: IGNORE THEM. I tried answering them on the cuemaking forum and then they gang up on you and you waste your life trying to prove them wrong. Then I ignored them once and after two or three negative posts about me they got bored and stopped posting on the thread. Proverbs says, "where there is no fuel the fire quickly dies out."
To be honest with you Grady this younger generations is very disrespectful and can't understand you deserve respect because of your age and experience even if you are wrong. Yes sir, No sir, yes mam and no mam are things I don't hear much anymore. Those who show a little respect will get it. So guys lighten up on the older players and let them vent their opinions with out nay saying. If you shut up long enough you might just learn something. If you don't then just learn how not to play pool if they are not teaching correctly. Grady has been an ambassador to our sport and just for that deserves the right to state his opinions with out anyone getting out of line with him. How would you feel if your grandfather was sitting around telling his stories and opinions (right or not) and someone started chewing him out and calling him names. There just might be a fight. Give Grady the same respect your Grandfather deserves and the forum will benefit from his wealth of knowledge.

Just a short note to all the people here at AZ. Around 25 years ago I started to venture out to the pro stops in Indiana, Ohio, and Kentucky. I had been gambling in the pool rooms and bowling alleys {some of them had a couple of tables in a back room} until becoming old enough to get into the bars. There were no leagues, and the only way to find out how good someone played was to beat them and make them play their best, or watch them play someone who could play. The first event I went to I watched Grady and Freddy play Bank and One Pocket. Those of you who haven't been playing for very long have no idea.
There were very few books, instructors? {sorry but unless you had an inside track with someone, you were out of luck} no video's. You pretty much had to watch and learn. The times I watched the great players at the pro events were absolutely some of the best times for me.
I earned a big part of my income playing cheap pool and tournaments for several years. I never went out on the road to earn my money as Jay, Freddie, and Grady did, but I have some idea about what they did.
Grady, one of the biggest tragedy's in pool's history would be if guys like you and all the other road players from your era didn't share your past experiences with the world. The stories you tell are from a life many of us wish we had the gut's {and the talent} to try and live. As with all things in life, some people will disagree with details of certain events. There will be those who don't believe the storie's at all. Who cares. We're all entitled to our opinion. The important thing is that the history our sport be told by the people who lived it. Esecially the ones who were coherent enough to remember. I was there to witness a few events along the way and love to hear about all I missed. Tell it all for as long as your able. Sam
