Enough Already

I play at Bill Schicks place quite often and had the pleasure listening to many of the stories from the late great Eddie Taylor, who would stop by occassionally. We almost begged him to stay and tell us some stories or show us a few shots, and of course most of the time he did. We appreciated what he did and according to all the other posts we all respect, appreciate and admire what you've done for all of us. Please reconsider and best wishes.

Well with fear of walking into the trap you think you are setting, over the time I have been posting if you check my history you will find dozens of examples where I have gone out of my way to help posters if I could. Just recently a poster was trying to identify a table and I went to my collection of pool memorabilia, (I have thousands of things) and not only found the identify of the somewhat obscure table but posted a picture from the original factory part list that came with the table.

I have sent people things they wanted, recently one poster wanted a copy from a Black Bore catalog. I sent him not a copy but the original catalog he wanted at my expense even though he would have paid almost anything reasonable for it. I am not unique, most of the posters on here are very generous with their time and knowledge and are quick to help anyone who asks a question or wants something without looking for something in return.

Just the other day one of the cue makers on here offered to do about $200. worth of work on someone's cue for $100. because the guy could not afford to have it done. Jack Justis the famous case maker again just the other day offered to make a case for someone who said it was their dream to have one of his cases and add the special features he wanted at no extra charge, there are some really nice people that post on here.

Then there are some that offer the least, even though they may be the ones who have the most to offer, and that is their prerogative.

My posting history is there for you to read and I have nothing about it I am ashamed of. I have opinions like everyone else but very very rarely make a post that is directed at another poster even though I have had posters leave me nasty and vulgar PM's. Even the rep point feature I have had foul mouthed people leave me messages. As far as I am concerned it says more about them then it does me. I have never made the horrible things they have said to me public, why should I, these people are what they are. I have been around the game as a player room owner and promoter for like 40 years now.

My anonymity is only to you and some others, but many people on here know me and have been to my house or played in rooms I have had, or played in my tournaments in the past. Anyway, I hope this answers your question, I am not ashamed of my posting history what so ever. I notice you have just started posting, I like to read some of someone's posting history before posting to them so I feel like I know a little about them.

If you had taken the time to read some of my past posts you would know something about me to a degree, at least what you could glean from past posts and you would not just make a knee jerk reaction post but one where you can have an informed back and forth dialog with someone.

Grady - Words of Wisdom

I hope you stay sir as your stories of the past fascinate me. One thing I've learned in internet forums is:

You can't fix stupid, so best to ignore it!

Best of luck on the IPT Grady!

Brian in VA

Its a damn shame. Grady Mathews is one of the true legends in this game. Hes been there for most of it, and pretty much done all of it. His knowledge of the history and the players of the game is seconded only by HIS knowledge of the physics and the skills of the game.
Respect is earned, not given away. In this circle, its earned the hard way. And Grady has earned the respect of pretty much everyone who knows him, or just knows of him. The man is a truely a class act.
Grady, thank you for everything you have done over the years. Thank you for the memories, and the knowledge you have passed down.
Hope you will see it differently and come back sir.
Chuck

Macguy, My concern is this: Are you trying to help the situation, or make it worse?

If you're trying to help, please consider a different method.

Sorry to see you go Grady, but I understand why you are leaving. Who needs to be abused by so of the AZ Billiards Trash Factor...NO ONE IMO

Mr. W.,
Let me help you, the answer is "trying to make it worse."

For those that wish to, it is easy to check all of Grady's posts. There are PLENTY that answer other member's questions, plenty that are not bitter or argumentative, and plenty that don't involve self-promotion.

To me, the post is a blatant attempt to cause trouble through exaggeration and overstatement (false at that). He ends his post with an insult aimed at all who have contributed their sentiments.

Grady (and his wife) contributed a great deal to our efforts in the AZB room this year. He has also contributed as many stories as ANY pro we have had here. He has shared his frank opinions (most of which I heartily agree with).

I can only assume Macguy is hoping that no one will check out HIS record of posts. Despite HIS self-congratulatory examples, he comes off a distant second in the 2 man competition with Grady. I couldn't disagree more with almost every premise in that horrible post.

We must be reading different forums. I just did a quick skim of his history to see if I could be wrong and it was worse then I remembered.

I originally was just commenting on the always funny, "I will never post here again", what is the person really trying to accomplish with one of those posts? You find them on every type of forum. They always get the same type of replies, either "Don't let the door hit you in the backside" as well as the "Please don't leave you are such a good person". I'm sorry but they crack me up and are so childish and predictable.

I’m not going to post on AZ’s main forum anymore. It seems to me that if I go to a lot of trouble to relate billiard history and to honor past greats, that I should be able to do that criticism free. If a man like Freddie picks at me, that’s ok for two very good reasons: a. He’s earned the right and b. He’s right most of the time.
I’m no longer thick skinned enough to have people who climbed from underneath some internet rock, tell me I’m a liar or that I don’t know what I’m talking about. These posters have favorite catchphrases, too: “You know what I’m talking about.” or “You know what I mean.”, like there’s some kind of hidden agenda that only they and I know about. I even sometimes get told that I’m wrong about something when I was there and privy to everything!! I’m not supposed to even be proud of my accomplishments, hard gained as they were. What difference does it make if Efren beat me 11 times and I only won once? That’s once more than the internet cowards will ever do.
Also, I’ve discovered the hard way that if I get asked something by these people or I post something myself that they disagree with, there exists no evidence or answer that would make them believe me or understand the truth.
Mike, I have a good suggestion for your site: Why don’t you have someone like a Freddie criticize my posts and vice-versa. That way, we could be rid of the bad malcontents. I had been really enjoying talking about the past and great champions like Denny, Richie, Larry, Cole, etc. and the old time places but the idiots that hate everything and everybody have ruined that pleasure for me.
So I bid this site a reluctant goodbye.

Damn Grady, I really wish you would reconsider. A lot of people enjoy your posts and I'm one of them. Hope you change your mind.
Warm Regards,
JoeyA

maguy,
You may be well respected in your 'little neighborhood', but from what I've read in your recent posts, you just like to 'stirr it up'. Great way to maintain your respectability.

Grady wants to say good bye and gives reasons and you call that childish?

It is reassuring that when you stop posting, you will not be leaving a thread behind, you'll just STOP and no one will miss you.

Come on, have you read that post, really read it, childish is being polite. This is the same guy who has called other posters in the past excrement and now he is crying that people are making his internet experience unhappy for him. Give me a break. It's funny he says

"That way, we could be rid of the bad malcontents."

When did he become the board moderator, to him a malcontent is anyone who disagrees with him. He almost never makes a post unless he is insulting someone or complaining about something, he's the malcontent. What a joke.

Macguy, you missed my point.

I've tried to gently "suggest" that you are out of line. It doesn't look like my hints were clear enough.

Grady said what he wanted to / needed to.

How any of it applied to you is beyond me. You have since used it as a platform to make your opinion VERY well known.

Since it has become a personal rant and aimed at only Grady, I am now saying it must stop.

Please follow my advice and drop it.

So noted however, He did make a post with himself as the subject matter so comments of one kind or another were to be expected. His posting history speaks for it's self though and is there for anyone to read, so I have nothing more to add.

rather than taking a stand against ONE person, who has every right to post while not being "out of line",,,,why don't you simply close the whole thread, because at this point grady's point has long since disappeared.

Hey Now!!!

It ain't like it is his first rodeo!! He does this everytime he doesn't like what someone says. If he had Mr. Wilsons power, none of us would be here!

Wow, now that's unexpected. I'm new here but why on earth should Macguy get treated like this for expressing his opinion on this thread?

I LOVE reading Grady's posts and would hate to see him leave but if he comes on here and says what he said, why is it wrong to post one's opinion about it?

I could understand if he crossed the line and insulted Grady, but he offered his opinions on the topic of this thread. I don't get it.

Good for you Alex

This is very well said Alex and good for you in defending Macguy's rights. Grady is a living legend who deserves a degree of reverence and respect. Nevertheless as long as Macguy sticks within the rules of the forum he is welcome to post opinions etc. This I feel is important and fundamental. I don't plan fanning the flames of controversy by including inflammatory threads of the past. Things said in anger often don't reflect accurately the true nature of a individual. Otherwise Grady please stay...Grady is sorry for harsh words and Macguy has a right to post his opinions if they stay within the rules of forum.

We now resume regular programming:
Predator Bad-Good
Moori Bad-Good
Women Pro's as good as Men Yes-No
Best SP?
Best JB?
Meucci's are garbage - Hey we all agree! Peace in the village is restored.
