Equipment questions: balls, cloth, etc.

If I recall correctly, back when I was able to pay attention, the best cue balls were red circle, the best balls were Super Aramith Pro and the cloth of choice was green Simonis.

After getting back into it again and reading various threads, I see that technology and/or preferences have changed.

So, if money were no object and you needed to replace balls and cloth, what would you choose?

Alternatively, if you were on a tight budget, which would you choose?

My table needs recovering, and I am leaning towards Velocity Pro for financial reasons. I have seen reviews of this cloth that go both ways, so the difference may be in the installation (?) which scares me, as I intend to do it myself. I'd like to hear more pros/cons about this cloth. I was also planning on going green again, but am wondering why the change in preference seems to be to blue?

I would not opt to save the money in this case. Simonis plays better and more consistently for longer.

The blue is cool and I like it better.

Aramith Super Pros are still the ball set of choice for around $150
On a budget you can still get a good set of phenolic balls such as Aramith Premiums or Premiers for around $100

Simonis continues to be the top quality cloth but expensive.
On a budget you could opt for the Velocity which is priced at the lower end of the worsted cloths available.
It has a slightly rougher finish which will smooth out with play. Either cloth is installed the same way.
I'd suggest that someone play on both before offering an opinion.

The blue cloth has become increasingly popular - the balls are easier to focus and there's less strain on your eyes.
It's called Tournament Blue in Simonis (860 or 760) and Pro Blue in Velocity.
