Eric Durbin vs James Welden

Who wins this matchup of top notch gamblers in a 10 ahead nine ball set for $20K?

BTW where does Durbin call home?

Who is James Welden? I think Durbin lives in Kentucky. I know Durbin plays long sets as seen at Durbin City Classic 2002 and 2003.

Its either Welden or Walden and he plays as good as anyone in the country in both nine ball and one hole. Not very well known except by those who play great and or bet very high.

I could have guessed that, I wanted to know some stats on the guy, who he has played, beaten, or beaten by, does he play in tournys? etc.

He is not very big on tourneys, so I dont have any stats or accomplishments but he did beat Mike Coltrain out of tens of thousands and last year I heard him talk lots of junk to Shannon Daulton about playing a set of one pocket for $50K. Shannon didnt make a move.

I beleive his name is Walden and he is from OK. Great gambler. Lost 50K to Jack C.a few yrs ago I think he gave him 10/8.

Since I've never heard of the other guy I'll go with Durbin..... :D

in the early 90's...anyone in the country could go play this guy even 9-ball and bet what they could carry...eric needs a good bit of weight...something like the 7 i would think

He may have beat Coltrain out of money (I really don't think Coltrain would play for 10's of thousands of dollars gambling, he always wanted to be a top pro until his condition stopped him), but Coltrain has had his condition for about 3 years now (see billiard digest 2002). And has not been heard of since over the last year and half. Well, If this walden is that good, Parica claims he is the best player for the money (stating it in Billiard Digest 2003 or 04) he should have a go at him. Shannon maybe broke or his backers may have wondered from him in large money matches. Shannon is a excellent player, but seeing his lack luster performance at Derby City this year and a struggling performance at other tournaments this year I could see why he may not want to bet that amount of money especially if the guy is in stroke and he isn't.

Excluding Coltrain, who has this guy beat? McCready? Watson? Deuel? Cliff Joyner? Richeson? Hagar Jr.? just to name a few large money gamblers who play 9-ball and one hole. I don't know this guy, nor am I knocking this guys game, but Coltrain (with all due respect to Coltrain) has not been in compeating form and has been concerned with other personal things in his life. If this walden is that kind of top money player I am sure he will be at this years US Open or the 2005 DCC.

Just Play Tony will not play him even, he would absolutly kill McCready, not sure if anyone will back Cliff for that kind of money. He plays big money matches with the likes of Jack Cooney for $50 and $100k.

The time I saw him talking junk to Shannon Daulton, Shannon was on top of his game winning the one pocket tourney and nine ball beating Earl Strickland in the finals 15-11. It seemed to me that Shannon had plenty of his own money and definitly plenty of friends/backers.

After beating Walden he proceded to beat Cliff J for 100K. He got 10/8 from Cliff too. He was a warhorse.

James Walden

> From what I have seen,it just about takes someone of Archerish speed to beat him playing 9-ball,and equally sporty to beat him in one-hole. I saw him wolfing at someone in Efrens entourage at the 2000 U.S. Open, saying he'd play Efren for 10k even,100k with the 8,and "2 commas" with the 7,and Efrens friend could not talk him into playing. Efren was looking like he had not slept in a week, wearing an old t-shirt and flip flops, and must not have felt good, from what I understand he doesn't have to have anyone twisting his arm to get him up to play. James is said to have a VERY high powered backer in Tulsa, who has backed James in sets of up to 100k,and won't even bother to show up and watch,he is that confident that James will take it down. Tony Watson said he wouldn't play James with the 8,and Tony has successfully spotted Durbin, which if you have seen Durbin in high gear,is kind of hard to imagine,so you can just imagine how good James is for the cash.
