ernie barnes and pool

many would recognize ernie's famous "sugar shack" painting (just sold for 15m)
turns out mr. barnes was also a painter of pool scenes, as shown here- pretty cool
(for those interested, his "pool hall" painting- #4 here, just sold for 130k)

The Sugar Shack painting is from a dance hall in Durham. I saw a news article on it today.. Nice pool art there. Great find!

Ernie was an incredible Artist and illustrator, his most famous work was on the Marvin Guy album cover "I want you"

Ernie Barnes was an NFL football player before becoming an artist. His early paintings sold for $100 each! Now they are worth tens of thousands. I remember seeing some for sale at a little studio in Venice Beach in the early 1970's. Shame on me for not buying one, but $100 was a lot of money for me back then. Maybe if I had seen a poolroom painting I would have bought it.
