Ernie Martinez Update

Ernie Martinez Cues

It's good to know Ernie has so many friends and fans out there. Hopefully, things will turn around for Ernie and those of you looking for a Martinez cue will get one.

I have never met Ernie, but his cues sure get plenty of attention. Fortunately, I have been blessed with a couple of Ernie's cues over the years, and since I do not collect cues any more, I am willing to part with one of them. If you are interested contact me at duane@sosofficefurniture.com Please put MARTINEZ CUE in the subject line, so I do not delete it as junk mail.

Here is a brief description:

Hi Charlie,

I don't blame you for your dissatisfaction. I had two cues on order with Ernie and was lucky that Ernie's mother handed over my two partially completed cues. ... As you can see in the "ask the cuemaker" section, I am already trying to find someone to help me make these cues whole. This has been nothing but a pain in the ass to deal with and needless to say, I'm not too happy with the situation. ... Doug

Y'know, the incomplete manuscripts of famous authors fetch a pretty penny at auction, especially manuscripts that are incomplete because the author dropped or went insane... in other words, the very last examples of his work.

Look on the bright side. A Martinez cue completed by another well-known cuemaker would be an exceptional investment.

Too bad about Ernie leaving again. I instant messaged one guy, but didnt get a great response.

But I would be interested in buying an unfinished cue of Ernies. Also would be interested in buying out his equipment is his mother has not sold everything yet.

Yes, You instant messaged me and just asked "how much I have in them", which is quite pushy in my opinion. I responded back that it was "none of your business. Had you asked if I was interested in selling them, I would have replied in a thoughtful and pleasant fashion.

Now, in regards to Ernie's mother, the shop in no longer around. I offered to buy a great deal of the equipment...woods, etc..., but I don't think she was interested in selling for some reason. However, if you would like to PM me again, and can be cordial in your message, I would give her phone number to you.

Regards,

Doug

Someone forgot to take their meds... :o

I did not think asking "how much you have into them" was pushy. Its a prety common expression.

Anyway...

And I always take My meds.. and any others I find lying around :D

I disagree. What a person has into an item, cue, case, car, whatever has no bearing on the negotiated price. Quite frankly I find that question extremely annoying and none of that persons business.

If I get a Palmer at a garage sale for 25.00 and put it up for sale at 900.00, believe me, the 25.00 is already out of my mind. Even if I tell you what I paid, you ain't getting it for 50.

Trying to contact ernie

Hello,

I had made a down payment to ernie for a cue many months ago and I have not been able to contact him to recollect the money. Both 1-303-287-1660 and 1-303-293-9015 seem to have been disconnected.

I greatly appreciate your help.

Well if you take it literally, then I can see how you are confused. It’s a common saying, especially “down south”

And about the palmer example… I wouldn’t expect you to sell the cue for $25.00 (not that I would pay that for it) but a “common” response would be “ I’d let it go for x amount of dollars”

Although, once again, I thought this was a website for pool players… no English scholars… IT was slang ! My mistake, which I will have to live with.

Oh and since we are talking about annoying, look at your avatar… frankly that is the more annoying then any misunderstood question.

Joe, yes, that is quite annoying, but not as annoying as the old.......negotiating a "cash-price" and then whipping out their credit card.

William,
I have sold cues all over the US and never once have I ever been asked by a buyer to disclose what I have into it.. ever. The only time I have ever seen the information given up, maybe on a car or bike, where the person WANTS you to know his investment. So he can try and recoup the money.
Well your slang bought up a good point. Be proud, not sorry. Like I am not sorry about my avatar, cause I really don't give a crap about what you like or not. See, thats not even slang, so there is no confusion.

Joe,
Well as I said, twice now, I did not ask for anyone to disclose what they have in the cue. Your trying to make “a mountain out of a mole-hill” Whoops… forgot, this is a non-slang/expression friendly website.

If I wanted to know how much the person had in the cue, I would call Ernie myself. Met the man a few times, been to his shop, pretty much know what he takes down on deposit... when he takes one at all.

And as I said, it was slang for what he wanted for the cue. And your correct, I was not being sorry, was trying to bow out of a pointless conversation.

I was basically trying to buy a cue from a guy and after getting his childish reply, I decided it was not worth it at any price.

But anyhow, you sound like a real educated person. So best of luck with your catchy avatar and your cue sales all over the US! No sarcasm intended.

William-

I, like so many other pool hall bums, speak in common street slang but in this situation, I would have to agree with Joe. When an individual asks "what you have into a cue", that person is not merely asking for a selling price. They are inquiring as to what you paid for it; what work you had done to it after the acquistion; etc.

When someone wants to buy a cue, they generally tend to ask in one of the following ways:

"What are you selling it for?"

"How much is it?"

"What's your bottom-line price?"

...or some other expression that CAN'T be interpreted any other way. Just my .02

Ernie M. is MIA

Sorry to hear about the now reclusive Ernie Martinez. I was lucky to pick up one of his plain jane cues at my Expo here in 2000.
It is a four point maple cue with a black fiber or phenolic joint. Hits the balls real nice and has a good feel to it, easy to handle.

Only one shaft but still in new condition. I am willing to part with this beast, but please don't ask me what I have in it. LOL

Probably correct.
