I don't think ESPN has been a good vehicle for pool. I remember before ESPN had it ABC used to show the matches between Willie Mosconi and Minnesota Fats. ABC did a great job on those telecasts. The production was top notch and I think Jim McKay used to host it (I could be wrong but it was one of their top announcers). ESPN is a sports network that doesn't even show the main event shows. Take for example boxing, they don't show the big matches, HBO, Showtime and Pay per view shows them. I think letting ESPN have the exclusive rights to pool was a bad move. Even though the women are on it more than the men, they still aren't getting any real money out of it.
