Huge Hopedale Two Day Estate Sale Friday & Saturday December 6-7

Hopedale Two Day Estate Sale Friday & Saturday December 6-7 . . . The late owner was an avid Billiards player and amassed a wonderful collection of . . . billiard cue sticks . . . table by Diamond Professional

Lots of cues -- Horn, Schrager, McDermott (including Series D1-D24). Longoni, Audrick, Willie Hoppe, O’Connor, Dale Perry, Taylor and others.

Perhaps a case of more money than sense, but you be the judge. Photos reveal a number of "middle of the road" cues but hide a great deal. May be some real rockets . . .

Wow! Tihs is a cool estate sale. I go to quite a few estate sales in my neck of the woods, and if this was nearby me, I'd be there 2 hours before they opened the door so I could be the first one in. Thanks for sharing!

The "problem" with such sales is that too often they are way overpriced. We have one seller here whose pricing is so ridiculous I automatically skip both his listings and sales. However, I know nothing of this seller, and I am like JAM . . .

Good luck to those in the area.

Usually, at least in my area, the last day of the estate sale, they mark down things by as much as 50 percent.

Well according to Mass Bill S.2553 passed in 2018, which prohibits the sale of ivory in line with the federal guidelines, most of those custom cues are illegal to sell. The Verl Horns and Schragers, probably a few others, without "documentation".

There a McDermott D25 & D26 in that collection.

some cool clothes as well,

like his style

If they'd post asking prices online or if it were an auction, I'd actually consider making the drive all the way from Ohio. It'd be a fun birthday road trip. No way I'd make that drive without having at least some idea of how they're going to price things though.

Cool stuff nonetheless.

To my experiences, those companies that manage estate sales price obscenely high to start and then begin reducing prices on the second day. Sometimes in the last hour or two they're 80-90% off. Everything sells eventually, but for some reason, it's difficult to get a bargain. Maybe with the rarity of pool and billiard collecting, someone would have a chance to get some decent deals.

I prefer sales that have ads with a "random" look. Sales with organized ads tend to know what they have and price high. When I bought my WHP and Expert Leather case all I could tell from the ad was that they had a jointed cue -- it was on a table in a pile of stuff and the photo was dark.

Like JAM, I like to be the first one in the door. The problem with second day/last hours is that good stuff is usually gone. Being a regular/repeat customer seems to help me when bargaining.

Give them a call and ask for the Boss, explain the above to him, and ask for price ranges. Never will dance if you don't take a chance sometimes.

This sale requires unique buyers and concessions should be made.

Jam you sound like a veteran! 😉 I grew up going to garage sales and estate sales with my mom. It’s in my blood. I learned how to bargain from my mom. It will be one year on the 14th of December since she passed away and I think of her everyday. Every garage sale or estate sale sign always brings a smile to my face.

Definitely seems worth calling them up to get some more information. I can't imagine they would play hard to get with someone from out of town.

They need us as much as we need them. Good luck selling premium pool stuff to non-pool players, especially at premium prices. A player will pay premium prices (might not want to, but will) for good stuff, but the standard estate sale buyers always look for deals.

Mostly, but the SS, if not WG-not sure if they used WG on them at the time, Daytona is worth a look...if in the ballpark. The Day/Date not so much, at least for me.
Yeah I agree. The Daytonas go for a ton now don’t they? I kinda like how the square Pulsar with expansion band might go with a D Series and some of the clothes though. 😎
