Etiquette - A List for Beginners

HMmm

No matter how bad you played, got bad rolls, drank too much, missed an easy 3 ball run out, the Pool Gods dispise you, you must tell the other guy "good game" after he beats you, or tell him "nice run" or something.

But don't tell him "merry xmas" or " I gave u that one" or " I played like crap", etc.etc.... The other guy still had to make his shots to win. Don't be a sore loser, remember, it's not his fault you S*CK !! Take it like a man. Everyone has been there, and I mean everyone !!!!!!

PS: OK, if you knock the 8 ball in or scratch on the 8, the above just might not apply, but you can still be gracious about it......again, not his fault you S*CK !!!!

Never bang balls on a nearby table when your opponent is at the table shooting. If a short break is used by your opponent then practice is ok. This happened to me three times this week. I continued to shoot and allowed it all three times, losing 2 of the 3 matches. So I guess it is my fault too. It is unsportsmanlike conduct in my opinion. When you are "in the chair" you can not practice the shot that you just missed or any other shot.

Your intentions are in the right place, yet there are many players out there that think your sharking them, so watch yourself. Most players will accept a good compliment in match play it in VERY SMALL doses.

Agreed. Complimenting your opponent on an uncommonly good shot is good sportsmanship, but best left for after the game; or at least until your turn at the table.

When you miss a shot, don't beg the balls to hook your opponent. If you played a safety and hooked your opponent on purpose, good for you. If you missed and hooked your opponent, you just got lucky, so don't be a jerk.

I've often wondered why so many players start screaming "Scratch, Scratch, comon' baby... scratch!!!"

IMO it makes them look like they will welcome misfortune on their opponent just to win.

I wish some of these were posted in all halls or bars.

I played on a table last night that was COVERED in talc and cue chalk. Saw a few people chalking their cues vigorously right over the table.
