Etiquette question

While playing a league match tonight, I faced a shooter that slaps the table - HARD - when he's misjudged his speed control and the cue ball is threatening to roll out of position. He's never does it when he misses a shot, only when he's in danger of losing shape, and especially if he's down in the set.

I'm not convinced that it doesn't have minor impact on cue ball movement, especially given the table is set on a VERY unstable 150 year old hardwood 2nd story floor. (Getting a tight rack is hard on this floor if someone is walking past it!) It's annoying at best. It's distracting at worst. But is it something that I request he refrain from doing?

I asked him to respect the equipment, cut out the crap, and let the ball settle on its own. Now, I'm having second thoughts that my demands might have been perceived as an effort to shark or invoke gamesmanship. It wasn't.

Your thoughts?

laugh... as loud and as hard as you can.. make a spectacal of it.

put him on the spot if he want's to act like an ass give him the biggest stage possible..(kinda like how I am doing geno)

act like you are on his side... build it up... make an event out of it...

you will only need to do this once... and if you do it once.. you will NEVER have to do it again...

Well, I look at it this way, it's the same to me as someone bumping or kicking the table when their object ball rests on the tip of the pocket. The only reason someone would hit the table like that, is to shift things from what I see.

Work with your league director to go over the option and make sure the ground rules are clear before starting a game.

He shouldn't be touching the table at all, ever ... let him know that and make him stick by it. If he has an issue with it, next time you have a slow roller towards a pocket, brush the felt towards the pocket as if you were in a curling match, then ask him if you mind the fact that you were touching the table. :)

G,

A guy like that is no different than a player who taps the chalk on the table rails while attempting to slow down or speed up the roll of the cue ball. Worst of them are the ones who tap open face down and leave chalk dust all over the rails and cloth. Some tap their knuckles on the rails. Frankly, I talk to the cue ball:o. Alot! Rarely does it listen to me. Most of us root for position. We need the extra assistance. Guess its another reason the Pro's are better players.

Perhaps the next time you hang a ball while playing him, prepare to pick up one end of the table. Wonder what his reaction might be?

Lyn

Screw him. Don't let him know it bothers you or that you even notice.
Slate is hard. It hurts. If he wants to hurt himself let him be your guest. Except for sharking you it has nothing really to do with the game.

When I have made complaints in the past about bullshit like that it always comes back to kick me in the ass.

just before he hits the table with his hand, hit him with....................

taser8kz4ia.gif

afterwards, he won't ever do it again.

Hehehe... 8 ball bar box players and league players are a different specie. They are not quite up to homo sapien standards, but they are a few clicks ahead of a homo erectus though. Idiots... So many idiots.... Hard to breath these days with so many IDIOTS!

I'm sorry sir but I find this to be bad form. I personnally play in a weekly barbox 8 ball tourny with alot if the same guys I play 9 ball, 10 ball, and one pocket with any other night of the week. A large percentage of them are league players also. (And I can think of more than a couple who would have no problem snapping you right the F*^#k OFF!)

This opponent of yours is the reason pool is where it is, there's no money in it, has no sponsors, and is not on TV.

Just ignore the trolls Cowboy.... they are the internet tough guys who run racks at will and don't even know that Earl won the 2010 8b barbox championship but he is up here running his chops.

Don't feed the trolls, and they usually don't come back !!!

I didn't know that league players got the tv spotlight hahaha! Yeah it's all that guys fault and guys like him!

None of that bad behavior is on tv! Ughh who in their right mind would watch someone acting up or what ever is considered not "normal". Lets just give people with bland attitudes and proper "etiquette" tv spots and sponsers, that'll fix it.

Just guessing, i'm going to say your probably an old guy with old guy ways of how things "used" to be. Just a guess. If i'm wrong im wrong.

You're not wrong, LOL, but you may have misunderstood my post. It was meant as a satirical shot at the recent Earl debates going on around here. While I'm not a fan of Earl's behavior (I've been in attendance for some of his antics and frankly rather than finding it entertaining it just makes me tense and uncomfortable) I do think it is a stretch to blame him for the state of professional pool. Until pool becomes even somewhat popular on TV Earl could moon the crowd and flip them off and the only ones who are going to even know about it are us hard cores. And us die hards are not being driven away from the game by anyone's behavior.

Besides, I don't have to play him. As for the league/amateur player that behaves like that, it just isn't enjoyable for me to be in the company of such people so I prefer to simply not play them. When I come across someone like that in a tournament match I just have consider it an opportunity to learn how to fade such moves. If I don't look at it that way it would get the better of me. This is the same attitude I've adopted when playing really slow players. It used to drive me crazy but now I look at it as a learning opportunity and I handle it better.
