For the first time in its 11 year history, Team Europe enter the fray for the Mosconi Cup as betting favourites.

Tournament bookmakers www.stanjames.com have Oliver Ortmann's boys as 4/5 to lift the trophy they last won in 2002.

By contrast, defending champions, the USA, start at even money.

The 2004 Mosconi Cup takes place from 16 - 19 December at the Hotel Zuiderduin, Egmond aan Zee, Holland.

Luke, it sounds like the bookies rate the teams about even, and that's probably reasonable. Europe is fielding its strongest team ever, even without Souquet and Hohmann. Feijen is viewed by most Americans I've spoken to as a big upgrade over VanDenBerg, and we all know that Engert has been on fire.

The emergence of European golf was the reason the Ryder Cup became such a magnificent event, and the continued emergence of European pool is the reason that the Mosconi Cup is becoming such a great event. So let the games begin, Luke, for it should be quite a battle.

To you and everybody at Matchroom, thank you so much for everyhthing you do for the sport we love. Also, you guys can give yourselves a pat on the back. By bringing the event to the USA last year, you greatly increased awareness of the event among American pool fans. Everyone I know that went to Vegas last December to watch it gave a rave review.

I don't expect it to be a run away either way.

Regardless of the final score the fans will be the big winners.

I can't wait for this event to start, it will be interesting to see how the rookies perform this year, Owen, Engert, and Feijen. The event is taking place in a 445 seat arena that will most likely be filled to the top with Eurofans cheering their hearts out, I can just imagine the atmosphere.

I bet there's going to be a house full of "orange people" cheering for Niels !

Go Europe !

Luke, has the site for the 2005 Mosconi Cup been selected, and , if so, what is it?

The house will be packed with the orange army but also with lots of Europeans.

@sniper. Niels Feijen is not a Mosconi cup rookie.... Check www.mosconicup.com

EUROPE ROCKS!!

For us States-side folks, who is the "orange army" and "orange people"?

What a great year for Niels! He won 42-1/2 large a few days ago, and now the Mosconi Cup is going to be held in his home country.

I have seen Niels play on numerous occasions. He came in third at the U.S. Open this year, and came in fifth the year before, if memory serves me right. He must be on Cloud Nine these days!

Of course, I will be rooting for the U.S. team, but I do enjoy watching Niels play. He is like a piece of fine machinery, well-tuned, and playing before his home crowd in an event like the Mosconi Cup is going to be wonderful for him. Niels Feijen is having a banner year! :)

hi sniper, only owen will be the rookie. engert and feijen participated in mosconi before. i think the new mosconi website includes all its history; i just don't have the time now but you might want to check it out.

Niels Feijen

@ Jam

The Dutch people have a name when it comes to rooting for their team. This is alway's done in a orange outfit. The biggest Dutch in history man is Willem van Oranje (thats Bill van Orange translated). So the Dutch fans are called the Orange Army.

Fun that you have seen Niels at the US Opens and the Skin billiards.
I see him 3 day's a week when he is in Holland because he play's in the same club. He is in our first team and I am in our second team :-(
Niels is a true sportsman and have worked very hard to get him were is is now. I realy respect that. The reason he is having his best season is not only the practice table but he is also in love.....I think that gives just some extra.

About the Mosconicup. I am very excided that this years Mosconicup is in Holland. I will be there from start till the end and hoping Niels kicks some yankie but (again) ;-)
