European championship 1967

The winner of that event was Jean Marty who appears at around 2:00. He had also won the event the year before with Ceulemans in the field. He held several records at balkline. He and his family had a billiard shop in Paris until very recently. He was the author of several carom books, some of which he was nice enough to sign for me at a BCA trade show. We played a little 3C at the show.

after Roger Conti , his master ! ;-)

A friend of mine from my town is in France , picking up what straight rail he can, has learned to read french and told me about one of conti's books.

About certain. " modes " of playing the position at hand for improved position.
A great shame so much to learn about the game we don't have available to us here.

Even greater shame still that Americans refuse the game all together

I believe than you can find some Conti's material online ! But in french ...
Conti was playing with ivory balls, important to remember when you read Conti's writings.
Marty is a symbol of a modern billard era , like Ceulemans.
I met Jean Marty many years ago , I even took lessons from him. The man had some 'genius' genoma , aka was sometimes a bit hard to follow/understand ... i feel that , probably because i wasn't good enough to understand all his theory ! a very unusual man he was.
