European Championship Triple Threats

Oliver Ortmann from Germany just won Gold in the Mens Eight Ball after winning Gold in the Mens Straight Pool event earlier in the week.

Jasmin Ouschan from Austria just won Gold in the Womens Eight Ball after winning Gold in the Womens Straight Pool event earlier in the week.

Last year, Jasmin was a double threat winning Gold in both the 9 Ball and Straight Pool Divisions.

Looks like this year, both Oliver and Jasmin have the opportunity for the triple, each can win all three events and both are still on the winners side of their respective 9 Ball events.

After Oliver winning his IPT card he has proven that he is a force to be reckoned with on the IPT (as if we didn't know)

Jasmin, well...IMHO she might just be the most talented female to ever hold a cue, only time will tell.

BTW, has anyone ever won all three events before in the European Championships in the same year? Let alone it happening twice in the same year, which could very well happen this year.

I wish them both the best of luck in attaining their 'Triple Crowns'

Quite amazing....I watched them both win the 8-ball event tonight via the live stream...though it took 8 attempts to sneek in.

Janmin is pretty clearly dominant over the women, while Oliver has had to make a few tight escapes in the 8-ball and also in an early 9-ball match I saw...he's a fighter that's for sure. Congrats to both of them...a triple crown would be a mighty achievement in such a quality field.

The early 9-Ball match of Olivers' you are referring too was probably his first match hill hill win against #1 Ranked player from my country of birth (Ireland) Paddy McLoughlin. A max break Snooker player turned 9 Ball player and top of the Irish Pro 9 Ball Circuit (yes, there is an Irish Pro 9 Ball circuit :-) )

Jasmine's and Oliver's performances are indeed impressive.

Keeping in mind the versatility thread...I guess their performances gives straight pool two points as to what game provides the most versatility. Correct me if I'm wrong, but from my understanding the Germans (and Austrians) grow up with a healthy does of straight pool.

However, keep in mind there are no Filipinos (rotation experts) in this tournament. Don't forget whom Ortmann lost to in the winner's side final of the Hardtime's IPT Qualifier. ;)

Nevertheless, congrats to both Jasmine and Oliver. Too bad Hohmann is not participating.

Yes, I saw his match against Paddy. I think Oliver took the last 3 games to snatch the win. Oliver handed over a few soft wins early in that match as I recall.

Dang I wasn't gonna post about this, cause the live-stream server is allready overloaded. Oh well, glad you guys can also enjoy some proper pool on the net. Do look out for that jasmin Ouschan though, she's great! She played one of the best male dutch players (he also played snooker for years scoring many, many centuries) in a eurotour and beat him 9-3. There also was a bit of an upset. One dutch player named Tamara Rademakers lost to Wendy Jans in the QF 8-ball, Wendy was later disqualified for unsportsmanship conduct, which meant that Tamara was in the semi's and thus has won a Bronze Medal which also gave her A-Status with the Dutch Olympic organisation.

Ok, a few interesting EPC stats. Ralf Souquet has appeared in 12 (!!!) consecutive 8-ball EPC finals from 1989 to 2000 winning the title in -89, 91 to 95, 98 to 2000. Admitted, the earlier EPC's didn't have many players, I believe earliest EPC's had less than 50 players. The one and only triple has been made by non other than Ralf Souquet back in 1995. But nowadays making a triple would be much more difficult concerning the wide and talented field of players. You can see the change after the year 2000, Ortmann and Souquet weren't so dominating anymore than in the 90s when they pretty much won everything. Stats can be found in:

I've heard people talking about Ollie and Ralph taking up their practice once again, because of the IPT. Looks like at least for Ollie it paid off. Not that they haven't practiced, just not as much as when they were young. Now with the proper motivation ($) we'll see how good they really are, and if they can keep up with the younger generation, like Hohmann and Pagulayan who for me along with Reyes off course should be the biggest threats in the IPT.
