The following players have qualified from Europe to WPC 2004. First sixteen from Euroranking in order: (source www.epbf.com)

1. Thorsten Hohmann
2. Oliver Ortmann
3. Thomas Engert
4. Ralf Souquet
5. Niels Feijen
6. Tom Storm
7. Alex Lely
8. Marko Lohtander
9. Niclas Bergendorff
10.Thorsten Schober
11.Michale Schmidt
12.Erik Weiselius
13.Christian Reimering
14.Radoslaw Babica
15.Markus Juva
16.Rico Diks

Any thoughts ? Notice that v/d Berg, Marcus Chamat aren't there, they occupied spots 18. and 19. but I guess there might be some wild card entries for these Mosconi Cup players.

The pool club Ritz where I go here in Helsinki is nicely in there with Lohtander and Juva representing Finland at WPC. And Immonen was also a "Ritz-guy" when living in Finland :)

I dont'know how this is going to work out but according to the WPA Rankings Nick vd Berg is #13 in the world and Marcus Chamat is #19. Maybe they haven't just updated the rankings on teh website
(http://www.wpa-pool.com/rankings-men.htm)

Does anyone have link to teh official rules on how many places are given to different countries/regions and on what basis?

Cheers,
Kimmo

Yes. That rankinglist on WPA's site is their World Ranking list. The list I posted is a Eurotour ranking list and EPBF sends top 16 to WPC to "represent Europe". Don't know how/if players get WPC entries based on WPA World ranking list. So apparently v/d Berg has done better in World rankings than in European rankings :)

IMHO, Chamat and v/d Berg deserve a place in WPC despite not getting a spot through EPBF. Chamat has done quite well in WPC, a couple of 5th places if I remember correctly and v/d Berg has the capability to finish high. (don't ask Bernie about this, he's over his head in this case) :p

Immonen doesn't play on Eurotour. So he cannot get a spot through the ranking list of EPBF. There are many other ways to qualify, but I don't know the criteria for the others. It has been fixed for a few years that the top 16 in Eurotour get a spot at the WPC. I don't know if EPBF can give out wild cards for European professionals competing outside Euro-ranking.

thanks mikko, i think i have my answer now. he wouldn't miss it for the world... :D

Nick van den Berg, got his spot threw his 3rd place at the last European Championships 9-ball.

Also, Matchroom has about 25 tickets for players to give away as wildcards.
This for big names or Snookerplayers who didn't qualifie.

Immonen has to be there for sure, it just wouldn't be the same without Mika.
In a worst-case scenario I'm sure Mika would go over and qualify with ease.

I think WPA has some special arrangement for the past World Champions. So I would say Mika (as well as the other past champions) has secured his WPC place for some years...

Mikko, i think we have different information. Here's mine.
Epbf has 33 spots for WPC. So, the list of partecipants from Europe must be extended to a position around 30 in Euroranking.
Nick Van Den Berg did qualify for Wpc winning a Medal in Prague, bronze at 9-ball European Championship. With him, Gold and silver in 14.1 and 8-ball, and the remaining three semi-finalists in 9-ball at EC gained a spot for Wpc.
Mika Immonen has a spot secured because a player who wins the Wpc is automatically into the main chart for the next four years.

Tom, like I told, I only knew that the top 16 will qualify. But, thanks ! I didn't know EPBF had so many spots to share. Knew something about the criteria based on the EC results. I wonder how Mika is going to qualify at 2006, five years after his title ? Maybe WPA has more wildcards to spare...

Tom, next year in the top 16 in Euro-rankings ? :D

Chamat, VDB, and Immonen all deserve to be there. Chamat is bloody solid, he runs everything, too bad about his break being less then average at the pro level, it really kills him. Any one of those 3 can do well, Immonen is always one of the favorites to win the thing.

I don't think a player like Mika will ever have problems in finding a spot for Wpc...
In my previous post I reperted what I was told by Gre Lenders and David Morris in Belgium, a few months ago.

Mikko, top 16 will still be tough, but who knows, a position around 20-25 maybe will be enough... ;)
