Evaluation condition of cushions...

How can you tell whether cushions need to be replaced? I've experienced completely dead rails but mine seem to fall between "need to replace" and "perfect." The facings are crap but if the rubber is decent I will tolerate it for a while longer.

If I decide to replace the cushions, I believe I would want these, correct? I believe I have a Gold Crown II. It's definitely an older model GC with adjustable feet.

Thanks

If you have a Gold Crown I or II I think both of those tables use the Monarch Superspeed cushion, that profile is no longer made by anyone. You will need to use a different profile, for Artemis I think its the Intercontinental k55 but then your subrails will need to be recalibrated for that profile. I forget how it goes but if you you use a k66 the cushion will be the correct height but the playing surface will not be the correct dimension, if you use the k55 the playing surface will be the correct size but the cushion nose height will be too high making table play slow, I may have that reversed but that is the effect of using the modern profile on a Monarch subrail design. I have a GCI that I want to replace cushions on so I am finding all this info out right now, my rails are going down to Mark Gregory at Perfectpocketz soon, its not cheap but from what I have heard your table will play like a dream, better than any Gold Crown ever built by Brunswick.

You heard correctly, marks rails are built for serious pool players.

I may end up having my GC III rails recalibrated also, but it seems like an extreme solution when all you really want is new cushions.

There are tons of Gold Crowns out there and no one makes correct rubber for them? WTF! Is there something I am missing here? If someone did make the correct cushion they could ask $450 or more a set. The customer still comes out way ahead over custom rail work 5 states away.:speechless:

I need new tires for my truck too. Hopefully I won't have to ship my front suspension to Georgia to have it recalibrated first.

Thanks for the information. None of it is very encouraging. :)

If this is truly the case, then I will probably just live with what I have for now. The woman and I are planning to build a new house in a few years and that will have a proper pool room. At that point, I will spend significant money to bring the table up to speed. (Right now, it's shoe-horned in my basement and has a staircase and support beams getting in the way.)
