New poster so be gentle!

I am looking for information regarding popular locations to play, and any tournaments in the area.

I am aware that there is the Corner Pocket in Evansville that runs a concurrent A, B, and C APA 8-ball race to 1 double elimination on both Friday and Saturday nights.

Also in Evansville I have went to O'Briens on weekend nights but the band is so loud it is not exactly pleasant to the ears. Jillian's say they have a billiard room but they really have no clue on a reasonable price for pool or how to maintain their equipment. Finally the Fox and Hound seems to be decent but there is no signs of organized competition.

In Owensboro I have been to Hutch's Billiards new location and it is a very good deal, when they are open. They don't currently have a tournament nor a regular draw of customers.

The only other location in Owensboro that seems to have a pool following is 2nd street bar and grill (the old Hutch's location). This place has APA league affiliation but nother posted for tournaments.

I hope there is more activity in the pool world in this area and AZB folks can help me find a home to play.

Thanks in advanced for any information,

Boyer

Well im not sure but i guess your talkin bout ky? Im pretty much in the same boat here in lower part of ohio. Sounds like you have a few more options than me though. Nick varner is from owensboro ky i would think there would be something there but maybe he got out of there early on or the places he played are closed up. I know how you feel i wish pool was at least as popular as bowling. We have 2 bowling alleys.

I'm from there originally and those are the only places I know of other than a place on Triplett called The 8-ball (I think). That place has always been thought of as pretty rough though. See if you can get in contact with Chad Carter. Not only is he an excellent cuemaker, he has his pulse on the action in the Big-"O". Chad visits here regularly, and you can check his website for contact info, willadcock.com/carter. Good luck.

10-20 years late

Unfortunately, you are late my friend. Owensboro used to be a hell of a place. I can remember going there when they had 3 nice rooms, The 8 Ball, Rack N Cue, and Hutch's. I have family that live there and I can tell you pool has faded there unfortunately. I can remember going to Rack N Cue and watching Nick play when I would be visiting, and even used to play him races to 11 for 5 or 10 bucks when I was growing up. I'm not sure why the pool scene faded there, I know that Rack N Cue closed and I heard the 8 ball no longer has 9 ft tables, but it really used to be a great place. Lots of good tournaments and they would get road players and such. Don't know much about Evansville, I'm sure there are other posters on here that can help you. Although, I have heard that the Corner Pocket gets quite a bit of players from time to time, I think it's mostly bar tables (diamonds).

i grew up around evansville, i go down there a few times a year, only been to obriens and jillians in the past couple years, jillians isn't a bad place to go but i doubt any serious players really hang out there, i was gonna go check out corner pub but i heard it was in a high crime area

the only tourneys i know of are possibly corner pub and jimtown has had a regular weekly tourney for probably 10 years the last i knew, jimtown had a bar across the street from it that changed names a lot, used to it had a 9 ball tourney on fri night an jimtown had a 8 ball tourney on sat night @ 6pm, there was a ad for fox and hound in news4you that said they had pool tourneys on some week night but i figured it was just bs to get people in there on slow nights but i could be wrong

i wouldn't goto obriens on the weekends after 8pm, but thru the week they should have apa on bar tables, my buddy plays apa there on thursday nights, they switch between obriens and arc lanes, u could get some cheap action on the 9 footers surely after league is over @ obriens, i could set u up with a game if u want

the big tourney is in january after the derby city classic ends, the arthritis 8 ball classic @ casino aztar on diamond bar tables, $50 entry biggest tourney in the tri state area

will8834, DerekDisco and Jimmyrayk are on here they'd have a better idea about what's happening now than i would, u could also get in contact with brent stembridge owner of cuesports world

The Corner Pocket bar has a 9', double-shimmed Diamond. Most nights you'll find jimmyrayk from here or Gary Gentry to play, if not someone else. As far as finding the action, I'd show up there on a Friday or Saturday and start talking to people. Everyone's friendly for the most part, and even though it's a race to 1, the tournament isn't too bad. $5 entry...

They have 2 nine foot diamonds at the corner pocket now. Obriens put 2 nine foot diamonds in also. The hobo jungle has tournaments on Saturday after noon, it is scotch doubles with stipulation. Both players average can not add over a certain number.

Sportsman's Bar in Evansville (I believe it is on Franklin St) has very old Brunswick's in decent condition.

Do you have any additional information regarding this tournament such as start time, format, etc? I have been looking for something to do on Saturday afternoon. If no one knows I will call them this evening and edit this response with information.

Thanks again!
