Try playing with a house Cue as skill tester?
how is playing with a basic, often a total pos, house cue a 'great training tool'???Just think about it for one second. You're used to playing with your regular player and you go grab a wally cue. How in the hell does this train anything????You missing out on great training tool.
roger that.
That's what I was thinking. There was a house cue at one joint that I would always seek out when I was there, I loved the way it played. I would have found a way to make it mine but somehow someone spilled black paint at the top of the cue and ferrule, it was hideous.if it has a decent tip and smooth shaft you should play about your true speed after a couple minutes.

I would have offered to buy it first. I suggested to my buddy that we get some Diamond shirts and show up one day and say we are here to fix one of the tables. Would could then roll it by the door and tell the barkeep on duty that we gotta take it back to the shop to fix it and that we would have it back in a few hours.I think they caught on dude.![]()
Back in aircraft maintenance, anytime a screw or bolt gave the crew chiefs or other maintenance personnel trouble, the machine shop (Metals Tech) got the call. We had specialized tools & know how. Half the time I’d walk out to the flightline with no toolbox, use their own tools, and get the stubborn screw or bolt out myself. After getting embarrassed a couple times, they usually tried harder before calling us again. Maybe you’re just showing off a little - like I used to.Try playing with a house Cue as skill tester?

I had a house cue in the college rec center that I loved. After graduation I grabbed it and used it at my place of employment for 30 years(yes we had a table in the break room). I finally brought it to my sons house in Chicago.I used house cues as chump detectors. In twelve years of gambling near nightly I never used a hinged cue even when playing road players. Of course I played some places so often I did have three or four favorite house cues.
Pays to remember that the old masters were just trying to build something that played as well as a house cue and had a hinge in it to tote it around! Nice to have a cue you know and that isn't all beat to hell but a good cue off the wall will play as well as most and better than a lot of custom cues.

Hard to beat that crisp, solid hit of a 20 oz Duff!! Cuemakers have spent lifetimes trying to duplicate it in 2 pieces cues. Imo, one or two came pretty damn close.I used house cues as chump detectors. In twelve years of gambling near nightly I never used a hinged cue even when playing road players. I remember Bob Byrne saying "put a good tip on the end of a broom stick and Mosconi could beat you all night with it and then sweep the joint on his way out" or something to that effect. As long as the tip is decently good I could care less how the shaft is.
