I've noticed that most posts here were mostly about playing against annoying slow players. I guess it's the rackers' turn now.

let me start by sharing my experiences with such creatures. I was a regular at this certain bar where I used to play thrice a week. and I had this match with a certain friend from out of town. I would say that my friend and I play pretty well and can perform run-outs in a few minutes. it was a friendly match so it's a no big deal. it so happens that it's one of those days where everything seems to go wrong and you cant even make a single ball or have a difficulty of even making one ball. and what is even more embarrassing is you cant even make a simple shot. it's like being cursed. what was even more funnier was that my friend also got out of stroke and even couldn't make a ball. I know, it was embarrassing coz we were playing like beginners which we weren't. to make matters worse, the racker (a new face in the arena we were playing) was making this annoying gesture at us. somewhat bugging us which made us miss balls a lot. but I let that unfriendly gesture of his got away for the meantime. I was about to just call it quits and instead just drink some booze when that racker (with that grin on his face) made a remark and told us that we shouldn't be even allowed to play pool. that really blew my top off and complained to the owner; whom was also a friend of mine. the owner fired the racker on the spot. As much as I don't want the racker to be fired during his 1st day at work, I believe it is also not right to show an attitude acting like somebody. what a nerve ! :mad:

I've never played at a room where a third party racked the balls for the players - much less a bar. I thought that the practice was a thing of the past. Was this a tournament?

The only annoying rackers I've run across were opponents in "loser racks" tournaments. One guy was so particular about the racks I was giving him that I finally let him rack his own, just so we could play. He ended up going around the room exchanging racks with other tables until he found one that pleased him. It still took him much time and many tries to get the perfect rack.

Where I play the loser racks, or the person next in line racks. LOL

I guess I need to play where you play.

I would have challenged the loud mouth to a game!

Are you not just as guilty of showing an attitude? You complained to the management about his comment that "hurt your feelings". What did you hope would happen?

in the first place, the winner of the last game is always the breaker and the next player or the loser of the previous game racks.as for this guy, there was other ways to getrid of him.running a couple of racks against a guy like that usually takes care of it.
 
Well I guess that most of you are too young to remember it was standard to pay by the rack. When you finished a game you would just tap, tap tap, your cue on the floor and the rack man would rack for you and you would pay for each game. Or just a good loud "Rack" would do. Man am I getting old.

Here's one that was witnessed by quite a large crowd a cople of nights ago at the Side Pocket Billiards here in Manila.

I'm sure that people here now are aware of the fact that use of a "spotter" is normal here in the Philippines as reported by posters here who has visited (Jay Helfert, Jerry Forsythe, etc). This was a match between Efren and Ronnie where Efren won even thought the match referee was so annoying and had antics that would break ones concentration. The crowd was standing encircling the table and just barely giving the players room to stroke and as such the "spotter" was wielding a jump cue shooing(backing-up) and poking the audience and exclaiming "Move back, move back! Can't you see that world Champions are playing here?". This spotter was also doing some one liners too all throughout the match and his actions weren't surprising at all as he was having a few drinks too while refereeing this match.

Very irritating for the players, right? Well, the "spotter" still got his cut(10%fee) after the match and nobody said anything derrogatory. How can this be? Two World Champions, Efren and Ronnie, locking horns and the spotter was just carrying on with his own show. Would you confront the spotter even if it was another World Champion? Yes folks it was tipsy Alex P. "spotting/rackboy/referee" and it was a very rare match where 3 World Champions were involved in a single match. LOL!
 
you shouldnt let things like what your describing bother you, By letting people know what bothers you, Now you'll find they will intensionaly do things to mess with you. What you can do is play along like nothing is wrong and take your sweet time about doing things, I guarentee you will see a change.

Boy I'd pay to see that!! But from the sounds of it I wouldn't have been able to see a thing if I had been there!;-)

So it was Alex P. LOL i love that guy...i don't see enough of him..him and Danny the way they play to the audience it is very entertaining..thanks for posting Bandido..:)
