Ewa Stepping Down as WPBA Pres...

I read over on BD that Ewa is stepping down from being WPBA president because of her schedule. I don't really follow the women so is this a good thing in that new things will happen with the new Pres or is it a bad thing because of what may or may not happen?

The position will be filled today after the WPBA Nationals in Oregon.

I would

like to see Jeanette Lee or Kelly Fisher get it.
They could do far worse ...IMO

I think this is a good thing, especially if it's filled by someone who is not a player. IMO, players should not be governing themselves... What I mean is, the board of my company is comprised of outside people. They are not stockholders, but are part of the business and engineering world.

I would think that the Executive Board for the WPBA should have by now been made up entirely of non-WPBA players and non-WPBA contractees who could look at the group from a more ... unbiased point of view.

Kelly Fisher may be too new in the organization to be the Pres but I can see Jeanette Lee being Pres. but then of course, she'll probably have conflicting schedules as well.

That sounds like a good idea.

Ewa has done an excellent job as WPBA President. It is not an easy position to hold. I would love to see Dawn Hopkins in that role, but I'm not sure if she has the time and energy to devote to such a task. I believe Gail Grecar would do a fine job as well, not sure if her name will be on that ballot.

I'd also like to congratulate Vicki Paski on her induction into the WPBA Hall of Fame. She has dedicated almost all of her life (LOL) to the cause. She is an asset to the entire billiards community and one of the hardest workers the WPBA has.

This is a great idea, but I don't see it happening any time soon in the WPBA. JMHO.

I agree with Blackjack - Ewa has done a fantastic job, especially considering her commitments as both a player and a representative for Brunswick. And congratulations, Vicki!! She absolutely deserves his honor as a tireless contributor to all things pool, past WPBA president, and one of the founders of the Classic Tour! :)

Is that position a paid position? Or is it pure voluntary?

From the sidelines I have to agree that Ewa has done an excellent job.

I believe the WPBA Tournaments have increased to 64 slots while she was president. She maintained a tournament schedule. The payouts for the tournaments has increased. The people who appear on TV has increased. The website is better than ever. The brackets listed on the WPBA website are the best I have ever seen. Publicity for the players has increased. Articles for sale have increased. Showcasing the players on the website has increased.

I find it hard to believe that under her administration she has been able to accomplish all this in only one year.

And, I have never ever heard anyone say anything derogatory about her.

And if you ever met her in person you would know why Mitch keeps calling her "The Striking Viking" - her legs just go on and on. She is Striking!

And I hope she now has time to really practice and who knows how much money she can win in the IPT. With her beauty she is a winner already.

I agree with everyone. Ewa had personal attacks on her at player's meetings and handled crises with aplomb. I imagine she wants to really concentrate on her game for the IPT. As one who knows, your level of play goes down in proportion to how much you are doing elsewhere.

Kudos to Vicki who deserves to be in the HOF for her tireless efforts to bring women's pool to its current level.

I'm happy that Ewa will have more time to devote to "her" game, I also hope Mitch continues to use others besides Ewa as technical commentator so she has even more time for practice. I was impressed with her play at the BCA and would love to see her back in full playing form.

As for a new prez.....there are any number of fine candidates who would in my opinion do a great job.....but I hesitate to name them since holding that position could jinx their game!

The top players in a sport should not really have any other responsibilities other than to excel at the sport. I doubt that Kelly would even be considered but I would advise her not to accept if it were offered.
