I deleted my negative post in the JAM's Super Billiard Expo thread. I didn't want to have anything negative in there. Maybe to late now cause everyone read it already. Sorry JAM.

I'm just not interested in seeing a bunch of stands with sticks. If I go to an event it is to play pool in a tournament. We are talking about spending $75 per event. At least $150 there. Three nights hotel, eating out, Expensive BEER. This would be a $800-$1000 weekend. I personally won't pay that much for a single elimination tournament. The Expo part just doesn't interest me at all. The only thing that might temp me a little is all the people I would meet.

I didn't take your post as negative at all. I took it as your opinion and there was a lot of truth to what you said. It is very expensive for a single elimination event and being very price sensitive as I am, I understand that.

Most people are on fixed budgets and they need to get the bang for their buck and attending VF just might not be the way to go for them. I don't think that your post was considered negative, but informative. To me there are people that bash posts, and that is not what I read.

The people at VF are great, it is a good time and I feel that a good deal of the people who go just go to see friends. I know I do!

I have recently said that the majority of pool players are (tapped) out with pool related merchandise. If you have a new gizmo, gadget, item it has the potential to sell. Otherwise, there are only so many tip picks, books, sticks and other items to buy if you are a seasoned player. So your statement regarding not being interested in stands with sticks is very valid.

Good morning,
. I have been to VF twice. Didn't play there. Had a ball both times. I can't stand watching the pros for more than a couple hours at a time. They have the TAP tournament, a couple money tables on the side, play the pro, vendors up the ying yang, and $2 beers. I take my wife up on Friday and come back Sunday. Keeps the bill down. There are a lot of great people there. I sat at the bar with Blud and Janice one evening. You wouldn't believe all the pros and top cuemakers who joined us and had a drink. The whole trip sets me back about $500 including gas. It is a 2 1/2 hour drive from my house. Ya ought to give it a try.a don't have to talk to the vendors. Hell, I might even bring another quart of shine.

I missed your post. Have you actually gone to the SBE before? Or are you basing your opinions on expectations?

The SBE is the largest public trade show. It fills a huge void that obviously gets attention.

The single elimination is a 2 out of 3 set deal, so in effect, you get a different aspect of single elimination, and you get to play them on 7' Diamond Smart Tables.

IMO, it's the second best overall pool event of the year.

Actually, I think you're probably in the majority.

I have been to VF 3 of the last 4 years and plan to go in 2005. I go to play in the TAP events. Like the "open" events, TAP's singles tournament has been single elimination as well. This year they were going to introduce a 3-man event, but after receiving feedback from the players, they decided to make the singles round robin like the team event. They bracket players into 4 man groups and the top two advance to a 32(2-3-4) or 64(5-6-7) man single elimination event. In this format, you're guaranteed 3 matches for your money. I think it's going to be a big success.

I happen to enjoy the displays and meeting the industry people, but if I wasn't playing in any events, I don't think I could make the 4+ hour drive down there either.

Are all the events on 7' tables? There is almost no event detail on the web site.

I noticed the same thing, CaptainJR! I'm wondering about that myself.

All of the amateur events have been on 7' Diamond Smart Tables the past couple of years.

When you click the REGISTER button on the Super Billiards Expo website, the only tournament open to pros is the OPEN BAR TABLE CHAMPIONSHIPS, which is open to all players (pro and amateur), $300 entry fee.

Unless I missed it, it seems this coming year will be bar boxes only, with no competition to occur on the 9-foot tables.

I read Jr's post and didn't find it negative, you should have never deleted them, these forums are not to sugar coat things they are here to share information and opinions. I don't agree with your opinion or think it's an informed one since you've never been there, but it's yours and can't be argued. I think many people agree with you and many people don't want to lay that much green to take part in something like that. I think it's the best event in all of pool, and I've done almost all of them. I think Fred called it the second best and put it behind DCC and I can't debate him on that, but in a month I will be able to give my opinion on that :-D. In any event I think people should all share opinions here no matter if they are negative or positive and many times they will sound negative to some people but others will read them for what they are (just another point of view).
