Extension length

Thinking of purchasing an extension for the butt of my cue. Have one that fits on the joint between the butt and shaft but unless you use it all the time it’s useless.
They have 8,6 and 4 inch, what do you all think is the most used.

I think mid cue extensions are for taller players whose hands are hanging off the end of a 58" cue. A mid cue extension allows a tall player to move their rear hand forward a bit, so that their whole hand is on the cue. Tall players are most likely going to use a mid cue extension for all shots. For shorter players, I don't think many people would want the hassle of putting on a mid cue extension just for long shots.'

I use a 4" mid cue extension along with an 8" Predator rear extension. If there's enough room around the table, I use both extensions for all shots, and occasionally I still need a bridge.

i think the longer the better for rear extensions
this is my personal preference and based on my experience only

I have one that screws on the end of my cue and a longer extendable one as well. I find I don't want to take the time to screw it all together and just grab the long cue from the table instead.
I'd like to have a shorter butt for wall clearance and wish i could put the extension on the shaft. some like the padded extensions that just slip over the butt, less screwing around.

I would try to get something compatible with your weight bolt that is quick release. My predator QR extension comes in handy it's a full foot long one small twist on and off.

As a tall player, 6'4", I recently started using a 6" mid extension. Has made a subtle difference in my stroke and improved accuracy on those long straight-ins, as well as power draw shots. Muscles in the forearm and wrist don't have the 'Snap' they once had. Extension has helped on both accounts.

Mid-cue extensions are only good if you are perminately trying to make your cue longer (say you are a taller player). Butt extenstions are good if you are an average height player and can't reach a certain shot.

I'm average height and I'm using an 8" butt extension for the hard to reach shots.

8” will give you the most benefit for those shots you can’t reach comfortably. I actually have a 12”.

Is there a reason one might be better served with the shorter one?

The longer one can also be the shorter one and the shorter one can never be the longer one, yuhknow?

Just recently started using a 4" mid cue extension.
Question: mid or butt extension?? I have both. 4" mid, 6" butt. Which one do you guys think would help eliminate elbow drop on those long follow thru shots or full table draws I make occasionally?? I'm new to this - 6'4" - and these 57"s and 58"s just ain't cutting it. Help. Lol.

I think a pendulum stroke would take care of the elbow drop

Don't work that way for me. Wish it did, but long follow thru is part of my arsenal and too old to change that part of it, but thanks for the tip anyhoo.👍🏻

So why do you think some type of extension would take it away?

8"

If you need an extension, you want one that's long enough.

With a lightweight carbon fiber extension, the extra length doesn't result in an uncomfortable amount of extra weight.

Eliminates the forward drop on cue ball during stroke.
I don't have that dip when going thru my initial stroke to set the shot. I can keep the cue completely level resulting in fewer errors, better accuracy and spin and thus fewer corrections. The extension seems to remove that forward dip at the cue ball that I've always had when lining up the shot and preparing to pull the trigger. I like how it allows me to strike the cue ball where I'm aiming without having to compensate for that drop. I hope that makes sense. Apologies as this is all new to me and may not have enuf info yet to accurately describe what's going on. Think I'm on to something, but time will tell. Keep ya posted.
