Scott Lee can you please weigh in on this thread?

We had a lengthy conversation about eye dominance in our lesson and you explained it to me so succinctly and I'd never be able to do your presentation justice.

To paraphrase Scott....yes what you're saying is true...but it doesn't matter because that "test" is only valid at arms length. When you're looking at the cue ball or object ball, you're outside the range of eye dominance.

<--- Hoping my memory is OK since I didn't put the DVD of our lesson back in to check.

Wow...

It is difficult to imangine any statement that could be more incorrect.

I had never thought about the eye dominance thing in my 20+ years of playing until the "perfect aim" threads came about.. I do not have the video but picked up bits and pieces from the discussions and have played around with head positioin..

I am right handed, and always centered the cue to the right of my nose, I missed shots that had to be hit dead straight all too often. Now that I have experimented extensively with my head position, I found out where my head position gives me the most accuracy.. To my surprise, it's to the left of my nose. I am hitting balls straighter than ever.. I'd probably learn a lot more if I actually purchase the Perfect Aim video but have not done so yet..

I'm sure glad the threads about Gene's videos came about. My game is much more consistent than before and I already played well above average before the enlightenment. Your mileage may vary.. Mojoe

Getting professional help

I`ve needed to do this for a while,

Trying to get times and dates set up to spend some quality time with professional instructor in my area(Steve Jennings)

Aiming, or the lack of, have kept me from reaching my potential

and help explain those nights when I hit everything fat or cut everything thin.

Looking forward to getting this worked out

Thanks for the input

Thanks Geno for your post. I am left eyed and shoot right handed. I get many people thinking I am crazy when I say I am struggling with my eye dominance, especially when I step to a 9 ft after 7 or 8 ft. I've been trying to put the stick under my nose, but it often ends up under my right (bad) eye. What I often do is wink one eye then the other, to get my brain to see the perspective better, and that often helps me hit center cue ball correctly and aim correctly. Sometimes I tilt my head inward, which feels slightly unnatural. What I think I will try now is shifting my head over slightly to put my good eye more over the stick, as shown in the pictures (linked above) of those famous players.

Left Eye Dominant/ Right Hand Players

From What Ive seen in my own game this is no handicap as long as you have both eyes open when you shoot. I dont see any reason that eye dominance would effect your ability to find where to hit the ball as long as you did it the same way each time. Only youre perception and mine might be different and that doesnt mean mine is bad.

Ray Martin was a left eye dominant right hand player and he did pretty good.
