Eye Dominance

I see the mention of left and right eye dominant in a lot of threads and was wondering what it is and how do I figure out if I am right eye or left eye dominant.

Also, how do I take advantage of knowing which eye is dominant?
I think a better questions than "Which of my eyes is dominant?" is: "Where should I position my head to best visualize the tip position on the cue ball and the desired shot line to the object ball?" Information and useful drills to answer this important question can be found here:

Enjoy,
Dave

Dave, I think a useful addition to your vision resource page lies in the idea that the eyes and the head should be aligned. Apparently, a horizontally level head that is oriented along the sagittal plane (of the head) relative to eye placement is very important for long term consistency.

I think the brain then compensates for ocular dominance as needed.

Very little, if any, attention is placed on sagittal alignment yet I suspect it is important for long term consistency, especially with newer players.

For those with little knowledge of physiology this means that your head should be level and that the back center of your head should form a straight line from the back of your head through the eyes to the object ball. The ocipital lobes that control vision as coordinated by the cerebellum are located in the back of the head. Having all these organs in line would be preferred.

PS your own summary of the thread referenced in #20 above might be of use to others. It is a long somewhat complicated thread that needs to be synthesized but has much information that could be of use to players.

Joe,

Excellent suggestion. FYI, I've added the following sentences to the "vision center" resource page:

In general, it is best to have your head as square to the shot as possible, and with the eyes as level as possible, in the "vision center" position. For more information, see Diagram 4 and the pertinent discussion in “Aim, Align, Sight - Part II: Visual Alignment” (BD, July, 2011).
...
Regardless of what you use as your "vision center" position, the most important factor is being as consistent as possible so your brain can learn to judge the full range of shots from the same perspective.

Also, FYI, I've added a quote of your #20 post to my dominant eye resource page.

Thank you for the input.

Best regards,
Dave
