Hey guys, I got my eye examed right before thanksgiving and the doctor told me I am 500 degee far sighted. i have been shooting pool for couple years and have progressed to a B level without any glasses but i do feel sometimes my eyes gets sore and i lose focus easily on bad days. Now should i go and get contacts or should i shoot naturally and maybe go on a healthy diet and exercise and sleep better. just wanna know what you would say. thanks!

I'm not sure what "500 degree far sighted" means, but I'd say if it isn't bad enough to require glasses or contacts for day-to-day life it probably isn't bad enough to require them for pool. Then again maybe you enjoy life in general a little better with better vision, you'd be able to appreciate a nice looking women from further away.

If you suspect you have a vision problem, it's probably much worse than you think. Our eyes change so slowly as we age we don't always notice it. Once you get it corrected you'll be amazed at what you've been missing!

I had the same eye problem. Originally I had glasses but that was a pain because the top of the rims would obstruct my view when bending to aim. So I went to get contacts and told the doctor I wanted them specificaly for playing pool. In other words, I wanted them sized for focusing on objects between 2' and 9' out. This made a great improvement to my game.

You can solve that problem with bigger frames.
My glasses are waaaay out of style, but as a consequence I don't have that problem. I were glasses to see better, not to look better. ;)

eye vitamins

Go to GNC and get their best eye vitamins that they have. Amazingly they have actually improved my mom's and my dad's vision!

I started taking them after lasik surgery in order to promote healthy eyes, and I am still 20/10 after 6 years!

Just a good idea even if you do decide to get glasses or contacts.

I'm pretty blind as it is... but went a few years without updating my contact lens prescription. After finally getting the upgrade, I took one look at a pool table and could not believe my eyes! It was great to be able to see every detail of each ball... and clear edges. I didn't even realize how outdated my prescription was cause I was just used to it by then...

I remember it vividly, I went undefeated for the first 7 weeks of my league that season.
:-)

Seeing better couldn't hurt, right??

I'd go as long as I can without glasses, if I were you. Once you start wearing glasses, your eyes will get progressively worse and your prescription will get progressively stronger. Sure, there are people who play well with glasses, but I've known some good players who got glasses and couldn't make a ball with them.

Every eye doctor I've talked to says it's impossible for glasses to make your vision worse. I tend to agree, weather you wear glasses or not your vision still gets progressively worse over time. I have to get stronger contacts every few years but they make my vision absolutely perfect. Why fight it?

Listen to the ophthalmologist, he or she would probably be the best person to advise you.

If you do end up having to wear glasses or contacts, try them both. I wore both glasses and contacts. After I started wearing contacts my ball pocketing increased and now I feel uncomfortable trying to line up on a ball wearing my glasses. The rims get in the way and I feel like I can't see. Of course, I could always try Karen Corr type glasses, but I'm to vain to try that yet:D .

Yes, Karen does have big glasses, wonder why she doesn't try contacts.
