Looks like one of the original versions from the Cue Tender Company out of Ojai, CA. Jay used to craft these out of just about any exotic wood you could want, and priced them accordingly. I have two of the 2 cue versions, one in a dark cocobolo (paid $40) that I have had about 10 years now, and one in the birdseye maple (as shown above) that I picked up on eBay about 5 years ago for a song. They were not inexpensive, but both of mine have stood up to the test of time and use, as they are very sturdy.
These have always been my hands down favorite cue holder. Not just because they were beautiful, (his wood selection was on par with what you would find in a well crafted cue), but because they just really work well, and cause no damage to your cue. The only downside is/was that they are bulky, and will not fit in your case pocket. However, they did come with a nice heavy-duty vinyl drawstring bag with a cord-lock, and extra long cord...making it possibly to loop through a ring or handle on a case for outside carry...which is what I do.
To the best of my knowledge, Jay is no longer producing these, as his website is long gone. It's a shame really, as he would have likely done much better with these now than when he originally came out with them.
I have been looking for one of the 5 cue versions in BEM for several years, unfortunately, the timing couldn't possibly be worse for me right now, or I would have already purchased it without quibbling on the price. :frown:
