Facebook warning

I use FB strictly as a messaging service. So far so good. I don't and would not advise using it for any type of business transaction. If i do get hacked i'm shutting down and walking. One time deal.
Thats me too, unfortunately these days its the only way to talk to people.
Most you will find, aren't on anything else.

How did you close out the acct?

I was under the impression that the most you could do was not log in.
So, it depends. I lost an email account due to inactivity, and it doesn't matter how many times I report an inactive FB page that used to belong to me (which I abandoned because I could not log-in), they will not remove or do anything about it... Facebook/Meta on the whole, is an absolute garbage pile.

My latest account is simply for messaging family while I live far away. I report my old count at least every couple of months in the hope it will be removed... been doing that for more than 5 years... it's still there

Never reveal your address on FB Marketplace or Craigslist! Just a word to the wise. I ran an Ad for a car (Lexus) and got an unwanted late night visitor at my door no less. I saw him on the Ring camera and told him to come back tomorrow. He asked to come in and talk to me and I refused. I had a pistola in my hand, so he was in a bad spot and didn't know it. Looked like he had a friend waiting just out of view, I saw him looking back at something. Never heard from him again. Like I always say, the vampires come out at night!

That's nuts. I have a fake FB account for FBMP just for buying and selling. Everything and I mean everything I list I get half a dozen scammers wanting to buy it now and have me text them. The number is always a google voice number. Or they want to send me a code to use. I mess with them for a while then report and block.

But back to personal info, you can usually have a conversation back and forth for a while and then weed out scammers and crazy people. Sometimes I will meet at a grocery store for example and sometimes I'll give them my address. But I never give my address until after we've gone back and forth or maybe even had a phone call. And then I give them my address only when they are on the way and I give them the address of a vacant lot across from my house. When I see someone trying to figure out where they are I'm outside and I wave them over.

I'm glad I never got into facebook. It's tough for a business as people are all on the damn thing but it's shitty. What gets me is most businesses don't even have a simple freebie web page with their hours, menu, place of business, etc. They only exist online via facebook. That's asking for trouble. One hack and your entire online presence is gone forever or blemished with scammers.

Almost every business i've ever looked for had a Google presence. Rarely if ever did i have to go to FB to find a co.

People should remember that by downloading the app, whether they're using it or not, they are granting FB permission to view their contacts, location, microphone, etc.. If you go into the app settings on your phone, you can see what permissions you grant them. There are also the issues with tracking codes and cookies that everyone should be aware of. Also, everyone should use a VPN service but I digress...

I use a pseudo name on FB just so I can see some pages and occasionally look at the market place.
Other than that FB is definitely not worth volunteering your private information with photos et al, none of them are!

I recommend ProtonMail because of their encryption. They also have a calendar, cloud storage and a password manager called Plus. The free version is adequate but the paid version is outstanding. I wish everyone took their privacy more seriously.

I started to sign up with FB years ago, but a screen came up that said I authorized FB to use my directory and all the entries for their own purposes. I decided my personal directory contained information actually owned by OTHERS and that in due conscience I could not give all that information away. Not just to FB, but to anyone. I declined and never went back. Ask yourself, do YOU really own the personal data that was entrusted to you by others?
