Does your cue shaft stiffen up after time? Heard some mixed opinion on this but I feel my cue hits more soild if I use it for the whole week!

it might be that the wood gets "drier" after years, which might affect the hit of the cue.

if you dont sand it down, which makes the shaft wippier, you might get a stiffer, drier shaft... after years ;)

what you are experiencing is that your tip might get compressed through playing, my moori medium plays like a hard one now but i like it. sound, feel and hit changes

I am not sure. I think that the wood fibers in the shaft will begin to stretch and break down after prolonged use, causing the shaft not to play as solid as it did when it was new.

It could also be such a small difference that it is truly not noticeable unless you used instrumentation to measure the flex in a shaft.

As far as what you notice, maybe this feeling you have is just from being more comfortable with the cue.

Anyhow, it is not something I ever noticed or worried about.

Actually, over the years it has gone the other way. I suppose time does that to a fellow.
My girlfriend doesn't seem to mind. She too is getting on in years and...What? He was talking about cue shaft stiffness?
My bad. Carry on. :)

No,but being in different rooms with different cloth, tempature
and balls will give you the illusion that your cue may play different but its not.

Most of the time most things weaken in time,so if anything it could be the opposite,
if it wasn't built top-notch.

Crush one Viagra with a mortar and pestle. Or with the flat side of a butcher knife. Mix with Isopropyl alcohol.

Wet a soft cotton cloth with alcohol mixture.

Rub shaft vigorously.

Cue will now have a very stiff hit for approx 4 hours.

If cue hits too stiff for you, show it a picture of Hillary Clinton. If you don't have a picture of Hillary on hand, Rosie O'Donnel or Rosanne Barr will suffice.

I can't really speak to that but I do believe as you play with a shaft it seems to get better and better. I have often refit shafts from one cue to another because I liked the shaft. I have always hated new shafts when I first get them.

In fact I am playing with a shaft right now I made like 25 years ago. I took a shot at re-tapping it from a 3/8 x10 to a radial and it worked out fine. Older shafts just seem to hit better what ever hit means. Maybe it is just me, I never could figure the guys with the white shafts they go to such lengths to keep it perfectly clean. I can't wait till it gets some patina to it.

Allen Gilbert, an American 3-cushion champion of yore, would retire a shaft after a
a few years because he said they got too strong.....he liked the softer hit from newer wood.

Older wood gets stiffer. But using it makes it more limber. So if you think it got stiffer in a week, I have to vote "Fiction".
