Here are Fargo Ratings and an associated "rank" for many of the 185 players playing right now at the Eurotour event in Italy. We are interested to see which between Fargo Ratings and WPA rank will predict correctly the winner or more of the matches in the elimination phase (final 32 players) of this tournament. I see Jayson Shaw is playing. I don't think he's played in Europe for a few years.

So I took a look at the results and found a couple of things.

First, for the (vast) majority of matchups the WPA rank and the Fargo rank were consistent and predicted the same winner. Of the 31 matches for the final 32 (single elimination), I only found 4 for which there were both Fargo and WPA rankings, and the two rankings had a different order, i.e., predicted a different winner. Of those 4, Fargo correctly predicted 2 and WPA correctly predicted 2.

Gray vs. Ekonomopolous (WPA was correct)
Gray vs. Alcaide (Fargo was correct)
Bijsterbosch vs. Sanchez Ruiz (WPA was correct)
Stepanov vs. Putnik (Fargo was correct)

So, there wasn't a clear winner for this test, but mostly there just wasn't much data.

Neils 38th
Shaw 42nd
I'd say the Fargo rating makes much more sense

These are the top 4 in fargo ratings. All 4 made it to the final 8. Jayson made it to the Semi's and Ralf made it to the finals.

Neils WPA 38
Jayson WPA 42
Mark WPA 73
Ralf WPA 21

Albin Ochuan WPA 3 didn't make it to the final 32. That doesn't necessarily mean he shouldn't be #3 but it does mean that the above players should probably be ranked higher.

Yeah that's another good test. But the test, as Mike Page laid it out, clearly didn't work.
