FargoRate for handicapping all level tournaments

Ummm.... The APA is rumored to have banned the use of Diamond tables in APA events. If that's true, the logical conclusion is that the APA will never, under any circumstances touch FargoRate.

From what i know, they just don't want to use them if they have a choice. For our regional, i don't think they have a choice unless there's a load of 70 valleys floating around. Apa doesn't currently have a need for an additional rating system. I could see it happening if they began a new league system beyond masters, but that's not really their niche. I prefer diamonds and the larger pool bars in the area are almost all diamond tables. Can't think of one that has more than six valleys and only one or two places with that many afaik. Iirc, there is one place with about a dozen and another just ditched a few valleys and upped their diamond count to eleven, simultaneously converting another location to diamonds as well.

The reason APA will not use diamonds is because their headquarters see diamond as competition. That is because they see Mark as part of diamond.

But let's not lose the meaning of this post, Fargo Rating system. I still believe a tournament shoul NEVER use it, for either an individual or team event. You can not use a system that only really get 1/4 of all the scores to determine someone's handicap.

This will be the death of team tournaments in Vegas!

Or maybe simply that diamond tables cost WAAAAY more than tables that play correctly?

This is amazing!!!!! This is the first time (and probably the last time) I have ever heard anyone that says a Valley plays "correct". :rotflmao1::rotflmao1::rotflmao1:
I just bought a Valley to go with my Gold Crown with 4 1/2" pockets and same rail specs as a Diamond so I can learn to hit the rail 3 diamonds from the pocket and still watch the object ball fall. Valley pockets may not be 7 1/2" wide, but with dead rails and shallow shelves they sure play like it.

any idea why they would ban diamond tables?

my guess is the level of difficulty diamond pockets carry over a usual bar box creates a lot of complaints from the APA crowd.

All my best packages are on a diamond ,, once your used to the rails their easier I'm my book because they play so consistent from table to table

There will be three levels of handicap:

HOT Handicaps
MEDIUM Handicaps
MILD Handicaps

HOT is the aggressive one--it makes the races as close to "fair" as possible without actually giving the lower-rated player an advantage.

MEDIUM and MILD retain different degrees of advantage to the higher-rated player.

Stay tuned...

The following is in-my-opinion.

This is not an investment in the future. It is an investment in the status-quo. We already do this with loads of controversy. Point spreads should be left to players who want to match-up. Scored games like bowling and golf lend themselves well to sanctioned point-spread handicapping. Point-spread handicapping for interactive sports like pool, football, tennis, boxing etc are best left to bookmakers and gamblers. The algorithms for those sports are imaginative, controversial, and mushy. A sanctioning body that decides what is fair for pool players is certain to continue to anger everyone and blow any credibility that it might have.

I think there could be ways to get the job done without point-spreads.
