Fast Cloth & Racking

As long as tables continue to use Simonis or other fast cloth, you can almost never get the PERFECT rack top players are looking for. There in no nap on the fast cloth, plus it's put on so tight. Johnnyt

As I have shared before, I have a very slow cloth on my table, and all I have to do is throw them in a rack, place it on the spot, and all the balls touch, no problem at all. When I go to the local pool room, its nigh impossible to keep them together with the fast cloth. Having watched all the breaking at the pro level, with seemingly very few clusters in the nine ball game, I couldn't figure out why there was rarely a cluster. Well, a light bulb moment-It's the cloth.

I'm not saying fast cloth is bad. Some like it and some don't. Most have not played much on slower cloth. I'm just making a point of fast cloth is hard to rack ALL balls tight. Johnnyt

Which is why in Matchroom events like World Cup of Pool, they had ref rack with rack. Cloth was fast and makes it tough for players to figure out the break

There were so many dry breaks in that event

I agree the wood rack on fast cloth is very hard to get ALL the balls tight, but they also spot the 9 on the spot to make it even harder. Johnnyt

I have Simonis 860, about 3 years old and due for replacement soon, on my Gold Crown and I rarely have trouble getting a tight rack. I also have a 7' Valley with relatively new Championship cloth, about 200 games old, and I pull my hair out trying to get a tight rack. I have no idea why the championship is so hard to get a decent rack. I have tried different sets of balls, even the good sets for my Gold Crown and it makes no difference. The Championship cloth almost seems like it may be faster than Simonis 860, it plays kind of weird though. One thing I have only seen on my small table is when the cue ball rolls slowly and it bumps another ball sometimes they will both roll frozen together.
