Favorite quote from Pool Movies

"Do you think I need to lose some weight?"

Forest Whitaker
C.O.M.
I missed yours when I first read thread.
Loved his character!
Think of him every time I carry my bar cue in.....with no case of course. Ha

OK, not classically a "Pool" movie, but from The Cinncinati Kid
"Women are a universal problem".

Name all the pool movies

The ones i have saw are,
The Hustler
The Color of Money
Poolhall Junkies
Stikmen

What are the rest?

From "The Hustler"

"You bum...you pool room bum".
Piper Laurie (as Sara Packard) after Newman has slapped her.
Just about sums up exactly what pool room inhabitants are..in my opinion.

ummm .. (thinking) ... there was that one with Whoopie Goldberg .. can't remember the name right now.

"And on the 7th day, God was f--------cked up. So what did he do? He invented Pool"

Shooting Gallery. Shot movie, great line.

All the talk about The Hustler got the movie in my head.

I think my favorite line from there, maybe because of how Gleason looked when he said it is "Now I know why they call you Fast Eddie" after Eddie said "Let's make it $200 a game".

COM: The interaction between "Eddie" and Miz "Is this your first tournament?" "I did not deserve that" "Yes, yes you did" LOL I use those lines with my son all the time, especially when I see nervous parents watching their kids play and they yell and cheer after each game. I keep thinking "so, is this your first tournament?" hehe.

Poolhall Junkies: "I'm a millionaire, I lose 80 grand, I go get another 80 grand"

"I got lucky!"

I play pool, but I don't get the significance beyond it being a totally "unrelated to the hustle" line that his character would say.
I don't there was any other meaning besides actual body weight.
Some guys are creating something out of nothing.
..
I'm with you.

Agreed.

But maybe that was supposed to be about his speed - dont know
Jason

I always took it at him making a fool of Eddie one last time. Rubbing it in. Making him think he had an important question and want an honest answer, but then he lays some bullshit question down...

Eddie outright asked him if he was a hustler. Dude never answered that question. Then at the end he asks eddie if he needs to loose some weight? Kinda like "does a bear shit in the woods?". And of course the answe is yes. As he laughs at eddie whilst walking away.
Pretty obvious he finally answered eddies originol question.
Yes, he was a hustler.

Grady "Earthquake!" Seasons: It's like a nightmare, isn't it? It just keeps getting worse and worse.

Eddie Felson: Do you smell that?
Vincent Lauria: Smoke?
Carmen: No, Money.

Moselle: What you got in there?
Vincent Lauria: In here? . . . Doom.
Moselle: Come on, boy. Let's play.
Vincent Lauria: Yeah, let's play. We're gonna' have a lot of fun.

"Fast" Eddie Felson: Fat man. You shoot a great game of pool.
Minnesota Fats: So do you, Fast Eddie.

Probably a good interpretation, but I wouldn't go so far as "pretty obvious". (Not a whole lot goes over my head...I'm 6'5". Perhaps this did. LOL) He'd talked about volunteering for experiments and echoed Fast Eddie's statements a few times. Struck me as either an eccentric question, or like Icon of Sin mentioned, a last tweak with a pseudo-serious but bullshitty question.

I always interpreted that as he took a bunch of money off of Eddie, hence now he "weighed" more. Also implying he was in fact a hustler. ;)

I recognized that he was, in fact a hustler. ;)

It was the ambiguity of the line that was in question. Note that there have been several reasonable interpretations of it, yours included.

I don't think anything he said was meant to have a second meaning, he was more messing with his mark with that question after beating him out of money.
