I belive that Jazz owned one, you could PM him for details...

Yep, he did. Then he sold it to the guy that I bought it from, then I sold it.
Whew, 4 owners and the cue was only made 5-months ago....
Remember that game "hot potato"? :p

I feel that the workmanship is right up there with the Ernie's of old. I own one that is over 10 years old and a new one. I think the workmanship is the same. The finish is very good, as is the attention to detail. You should expect the cue to be virtually flawless in workmanship.

It is my understanding that Ernie is typically making his shafts 13.1 mm "out the door", for "value purposes". Personally, I feel that that is a little thick to be playing with, but that is my personal preference. I prefer the "hit" of my old cue, but the shafts are down to about 12.65, so that would be understandable.

The new cues seem to have a "soft hit", but not whippy. The taper is fairly stiff, the softness may come from the triangle tips that he puts on this cues and or the wood to wood joint, w/ brass pin. By "soft", I mean that the cues do not have a "crack" hit to them, it should not be inferred that they are "spongy". Of course my interpretations might be far different then someone elses.

Overall I think that the cues are well made. It would be nice if Ernie would "customize" customer preferences more.

My two cents....

Regards,

Doug

I spoke to Ernie today on the phone. He was easy to talk to and answered my questions and agreed to the minor adjustment I asked for, before shipping my cue. I think he was outstanding in his customer service and was very outgoing to speak with!!

I will do my write up as soon as I get it. Now since I am in Japan it is going to take it forever to get here probably.....like 2 or 3 weeks!! damn military mail!!

well it turns out that the military mail was good to me this time. i recieved the cue in under a week!!! first time for that I guess from anything from the states.

The cue is sweet. i played with it Wed night at a tourney for the first time. It is strange much different the hit is from my TS's and even my SW. Like everyone else says it has a soft impact....I love it. I am used to that impact to see if I made a good shot or not but that is not happenning with this cue! The cue has amzingly lower deflection for some reason...better than my TS's and SW......the first 3 or 4 shots I realized this and had to re-adjust aiming! The shafts are a little thicker than my tastes but that can be lived with. overall i put EM's up there with the best!

When all the japanese guys seen it they went crazy.........I had a offer that night of 2300 for the cue. i politely flipped them the bird and said know but I will sale you my SW for that much!!:D

thanks for making this happen Dave!!

Ok I just got back from taking my new Ernie Martinez #423 out for a test spin. It arrived this afternoon...

First I will say if anyone receives one of these and is not happy ... PM me it is taken!! I am very impressed with the cue overall,

First the wrap is perfect white with black specs. it is pressed just enough and is perfectly level with the butt.

The wood selection is very figured and the finish gives the cue an irredescent look. Everyone that looked at it was impressed.

The joint matches perfect with the shaft, and threads on very smooth and snug for the last turn and 1/2. I had 2 shafts turned to 12.7 for the cue, and the tips do appear to be of the soft variety. Not sure of the brand but on firmer hits there is a diffinitive crack! A good crack that lets you know how you hit the cueball. And finess shots are a piece of cake!

The shafts are not whippy and it is very easy to pocket balls with very little compensation needed for squirt. In fact the shafts are perfect for my type of stroke and shots. English is transfered very easily, with good feedback..

Overall I would say this cue is a keeper and would highly recommed one to someone looking for a cue that plays as good as it looks..

Again I am on the lookout for another if one becomes available. Mine is #423 and is birdseye maple and curly maple combined. Very uniques wood, and a beautiful cue!!

Hope this helps anyone on the fence...

Joe, thanks for the report & your business - glad you like the cue. Ernie is using Triangle tips. I just verified that.

Nothing yet, but let's keep this thread for reviews only. I will start another one once I know the status of the 3rd batch. I also have a question for everone on the "list" so please keep a look out. (don't reply to this statment, please...let's stay focused on this topic....reviews :p).

Just got mine today...

Well I just got my new EM cue today and got back from trying it out tonight. Did not play anyone, just wanted to see how it felt. The result was that it feels great. Very similar to my custom Scrugg's, guess that's because of the similar type of joint. Like others have said, the shafts are a touch on the thick side, but I will take them down when I get the chance, wanted to try them before tinkering. Once I put some Kamui tips on the shafts and take a trip over to Paul Fanelli's shop and get him to install a smooth leather wrap on it, I expect this will become another regular player along with my Scrugg's custom. Hits just as good, just different. Maybe after I take the shafts down a little and get the wrap changed they will feel even closer? Overall a great cue, if you can get one, do it. I am very happy I put my name on the list as early as I did.
