Hi all,
been reading about materials used for joints and ferrules.
reviews for ivory has been very positive, actually highly highly positive.

now.. it doesnt take a genius to figure out that ivory is expensive stuff, and if one is trying to travel or ship by courier, it is a pain.

after some research, i've learned that there are some materials similar to ivory in terms of looks and feel, but the feedback on these materials are few.

these are:

Micarta
Juma
Phenolic
Ivorite X (is that how you spell that?)

i'd like to ask for everyone's input about the feel of these materials, when used as joints and/or ferrules.

thanks!!
best.

All those materials are good, but nothing hits like ivory except ivory. I'm not saying ones better than the other, but ivory is very unique. Elforyn is supposed to look and hit like ivory, but its still not the same.

I have a Pechauer with an Ivory ferule. It came with the cue used. I had a chance to try a stock Pechauer shaft on it and the hit was much softer.

Ivory is expensive compared to the other materials, but in reality a very small price to pay for the hit/feel that you might be after(inlays and points are another story lol)!! Here's a site where you can buy ivory cue parts and the prices are very reasonable:

thanks for the link.

good point that ivory is ivory in its own right.

just looking for more feedback from other materials, simply because i am curious and there is indeed a lack of information.
(honest!! i swept through the search button!!)

bump. could really use more opinions.
especially on joint materials
mainly: juma, elforyn, ivorine X, aegis, delrin and micarta

im looking for something that hits medium, has a solid feel, and presents itself like ivory, with a low chance of breaking/cracking and good for long term maintainence, ie, once cleaned, it looks good as new or ie. scratch/dust resistent.
