A guy came through the pool room a while back with this case. Said he bought it off someone about 10 years ago. May be up to or greater than 15 years old...
As you can see by the pictures it screams Justis, however has some traits I haven't seen in any of his work.
For instance:
- Pouch: has same dimensions, but uses a center mounted zipper pull.
- Strap: runs through both of the carrying handles. It is a single piece and does not "loop" like newer straps.
- Side seam: There are no brass or metal studs being used along the backside of the body. Instead, there is a smooth leather stitch running down the side to bind the seam.
- Side handle: it has a little more 'slack' in it to accomodate bigger hands. Also, it isn't as smoothly integrated to the body as newer cases, instead it is merely tacked to the side.
- Tooling: definitely very unique! Not the same amount of 'standard' tooling used on modern work. Only tooled in four spots. Main body dragon, both handles, and lid.
The case has three main issues. The bottom is kind of mushed up and deformed. The main pouch has lost shape (i stuffed it with newspaper to keep the corners somewhat erect), and the color of the case is kind of eclectic throughout due to age and use. Other than that - it is structurally very sound.
I am interested in feedback regarding maker, date of construction, and value (i want to know if I am in this case right...)
Thanks for looking,
