Feeling stupid this morning

Last game of league play last night, I had a chance to win the match for our team and ended up with this layout.
START(%EF1Y5%FE3E0%GC9E8%HP6Z5%JD3Z5%Kq6X0%OC8D0%PR2P6%eC4a4)END
I considered calling a safety and making the 11 ball, but woosed out at the last second and called the 11 in the corner. I came back down table and was able to make the 10 with a kick off the rail. The cue ball ended up right by the 6. I attempted to snuggle the cue ball behind the 6 next to the 15 in the pocket opening, but hit the 6 first, sank the 15 and lost with BIH to opponent. Would you call the safety or play the table? Any better ideas on how this problem might be solved?
Thanks,
Bill

If you played safe on the 11 then he most likely would play the 5-10 combo and you still would be stuck having no shot on the 15.

Play the 11 and try and come down and break up that cluster in the corner possibly making your 15. Failing to do that you can then play the 7 into the 15 giving up ball in hand. He would still have a problem 5 ball and maybe when you played the 7-15 the 7 & 6 got tied up.

Of course he would most likely play a safe with the 5.

Glad this happened to you and not me.

OK...I am glad I did not have this....but here's a thought.....play the 11 ball 2 rails on a safety and position it proximity to the corner with the trapped 15. That way you can use it to make the 15 once your opponent plays. If he shoots the at the bottom left corner to clear the 10 and fouls, make the 15 off the 11 and leave the 11 hopefully in a position for the sides or top corners. If they shoot the 15 bunch and foul instead, you have a good chance to use the 11 to get the 10. All of this is chancey since the 8 is not in a good spot and a sell-out is possible, but that's always the case....only so much you can do!

In looking at the layout it appears there is the possibility of making the 11 in the corner and bringing the cue back up to table to pocket the fifteen in the same shot if that's the one I see hanging in the pocket. From there a nice easy shot on the 10, leaving the cue on the side rail for the 8 down in the corner. I realize it's easier said than done with possibilities of hooking yourself but if I'm reading the table layout correctly, that is probably how I would attack it. The 15 appears to be completely stuck so offense would most likely be my mindset.

Personally I'd bank the 11 two rails making the 6-15 combination while sending the cue ball two rails making the 5-10 combination. Should end up with a bank on the 11 to the corner the 10 was sitting in. Thus leaving a straight in 8 ball in that same corner. :D

I agree with DDKoop, I would play the 11 (calling safe), and play to bring the cue ball to disturb the 6-15. Use the speed that will leave the cue ball on the foot rail if you miss the cluster. You should be able to hit the 6 ball (its a "big ball") after making the 11 - if you can't, then shoot it a thousand times until you can. If you disturb the 6, or if you just end up with the cue on the bottom rail, a lot of good things could happen. But of course, there is only so much you can do (I just made that up).

Thanks!

Thanks for all the suggestions. Of course, chances are slim it will ever occur like this again, but you've given me food for thought for similar situations in the future. CaptainJR, that's some pretty aggressive play calling! Williebetmore, it took us almost to midnight to finish the 17 games we played. I don't know how long it would have taken to shoot an additional 1000 shots! ;) You can only do so much (that's what I told my teammates after I lost the game).

Actually, I meant drink another 1000 shots. Your game will not improve, but you won't really care.
