Ferrule cleaning

Hey guys, great forum!

I have been struggling with cleaning my ferrule on my Pechauer and 314/2 shafts. I have tried 100% alcohol, and tooth paste and have worked on the ferrules for 30 minutes at a time and still have a faint blue chalk line on the ferrules, I know this was from me not being attentive to chalking using worn out house chalk, which now I use a chalker, but I would like suggestion on getting my ferrule 100% clean. All help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Don't try this yet, since I have a question of my own:

I know 1500 grit sandpaper is generally fine enough to not remove wood, and usually the ferrule is made of a harder material than the maple... so am I right in assuming that 1500 grit sandpaper is okay to use to polish and clean my ferrule? It works well, but I don't want to continue using it if it's taking off material from my ferrule. I don't have a lathe and just do it lightly by hand.

Before I got my own lathe and started making cues I would use Qclean by hand. It works great. I still use it now, but it is much easier with a lathe. There are also some good products being sold by Atlas and Cuecomponents. You might look into that.

I replace the alcohol with Purell hand sanitiser gel.

Interesting .. and do you use it on wood/shafts? What about on the finish? Any difference? Or better? I have no idea what ingredients are in sanitizer gel (I assume a lot of alcohol).

It works very well to pull the chalk out of the shaft.
If the shaft has finish down the length, I try in just a small area.
I have not had it effect any of the finishes that I have come across to date
I use only a small amount and it dries very quickly, so the shaft is not wet with the stuff.

I tried alcohol and other cleaners with meh, results. Then I tried this stuff and it really did well for me. YMMV

I keep a handful of alcohol swabs in the case. I don't need them for myself but quite often I will see a cue at the hall or on league night where the guy doesn't know how to chalk properly. I will ask him if I can clean his ferrule.

I know, its a nasty habit but I can't help myself.

Other than that, alcohol and Magic Eraser have always worked the best for me.

When I replace a tip, after I have shaped the tip, I will give the ferrule a light sand. That usually takes care of it for the most but usually still have to do a bit of deep scrubbing with the ME.
