Ferrule clink-cracked?

I'm starting to hear and feel an odd click on some off center shots, It isn't consistent though. Actually rotating the shaft will cause it (the click/clink)
to go away or dampen. Any way to be sure? Even if there's nothing wrong - would you recommend replacing the ferrule and tip just to get it out of my head? What do ya think Doctor?

ps: no crack visible/never had crack before-even break with it.

Could have air under the tip or ferule. Every now and again you will see this and it will make a funny sound like a crack when you hit a ball.

loose ferrule?

i got a new mali shaft for a rosewood mali years ago. a noticable gap developed between the ferrule and the shaft. try as i might i could not get the cue to draw whitey any appreciable distance. it was not fun trying to play with stop, top, left, and right english. there was a clink to the shaft. i ended up using it for a break cue. never did get it fixed.

If you do not see a crack OR see a gap forming where the ferrule meets the shaft, most noticeable because chalk settles there, I would bet that the tip is coming off. Either a glue failure or the tip dried out and cracked.

You can also see if the weightbolt hasn't come loose on your cue. Just last night my buddy's Joss was making that same sound as if his tip was coming off. After carefully looking at his tip and ferrule, I tightened his weightbolt and it solved that little noise problem. Kinda sucks that I didn't get to change his tip and make a few bucks but I rather help somebody out when I can.

That is also something to check. Sounds travel through the cue, sounding like they come from one point but are actually start in another.

Have the tip changed and while the old tip is off have the repair man inspect your ferrule for tightness and cracks. If the ferrule checks out OK have a new tip installed and your problem should go away. When a tip starts coming off it will sometimes cause the clicking sound you are hearing.....

Thanks gang!

I failed to add that I've been leaving my case in the car lately in So Cal during these last couple of months It has been both hot and cold here. The Moori medium has become Very Hard.

I deserve whatever expense I'm getting ready to pay-to have both a new ferrule and tip installed -my bad!! Any ferrule suggestions? I like to 'feel' the hit and spin the ball while staying near the center of cb. I've played morri's and pressed elkmasters(with sides 'supported') and like that hit. Recently someone suggested a Talisman medium- anybody have a take on that?

Thanks
