Ferrule less shafts

Who on here has had experience in playing with one of these? I'm looking for any and all opinions on feel, advantages, disadvantages etc.

I just purchased a vintage cue off EBay. The shaft was missing the ferrule (tennon was broken). It gave me the opportunity to put a milk dud tip directly on the shaft. I can't say I liked or disliked it one way or the other. It just felt like a cue with a stiff hit...........which is actually my preference.

THERE ARE A LOT OF DIFFERENT WAYS TO BUILD A FERRULE LESS SHAFT..... THEY WILL ALL BE DIFFERENT ACCORDING TO THE WAY THEY ARE BUILT.

IF YOU ARE A LOW DEFLECTION GUY, AND YOU HAVE A LOW DEFLECTION F/L SHAFT BUILT, I THINK YOU WILL BE VERY HAPPY. I'VE PLAYED WITH PREDATOR PRE-CAT SHAFTS FOR GOING ON 9 YEARS, AND JUST HAD RAT CUES BUILD A F/L SHAFT TO MY SPECS ABOUT 2 MONTHS AGO, AND I LOVE IT.

BUT JUST LIKE ANYTHING CUE RELATED, IT'S ALL PERSONAL PREFERENCE. THE BEST PLAYER IN MY ROOM CAN'T ADJUST TO IT, AND THEREFORE THINKS THAT F/L SHAFTS ARE STUPID.

Ferrule-less shafts

I have found that most ferrules have a cushioning effect.
If you like a hard hit and don't mind the sound, you will probably like it...never tried it with a soft or medium tip though.
I use it exclusively on my Harpoon (tm) jump cue because it transfers energy so well through the phenolic tip.
I've been testing a playing shaft for quite a while using a pre-hardened LePro and I consider it a good 9-ball configuration.
I employ a few specific techniques to increase playability so I don't know about a direct comparison.
Just my opinion...you be the judge.

I remember doing this years ago, but I think it started to mushroom the end of the wood shaft. Maybe a ferrule stops this?
