Ferrule-less Shafts

What are the effects and characteristics of ferrules-less shafts?

Is it practicable on a laminated shaft?

Hi Joe, I had a flat laminated partial from Schmelke with a tip pad and tip.
It played surprisingly softer than I had expected. Nice hit and as far as deflection goes, I didn't notice anything overly detrimental compared to a LD shaft with a ferrule.

It's just like any other shaft, just no ferrule. I'm not convinced of any special attributes. The shaft in general is a science all it's own from choosing the wood to the taper, ferrule material & install technique, tip, etc. There's so many variables to consider.

I played with a ferrule free shaft for a couple years. (until someone else just had to have it)
The best thing about it was randomly shoving it under people's noses and asking them if they could see a crack in the ferrule. :D

I have gone with a ferrule-less shaft for some time now and really like the hit. The only thing I see is that you would want to change out the tip when is roughly 3/4 used up.It does give off a softer feel/ hit as with the OB shaft.

You can accomplish the same thing with a thin wall ferrule and a pad. It does not look as strange that way. I know you are not supposed to look at the tip when you are shooting but I need a ferrule there or I go cross eyed.
