Materials and lengths are pretty much up to the individual doing the work . It's personal preference . Some people think ivory is superior for the only reason that it is rare , same with old micarta . (Look at what the most successful builders are using and their specs as well as the players and you might get a better perspective .) I go for what gives the best performance and feel , as well as durability , such as LBM and Aegis , which is a form of LBM . I think shorter ferrels give more feel as there is less distortion of the hit . But tip selection is paramount also . Hard , med. , or soft warrants feel also . Again , personal preference ... I can't say which is best except what the individual prefers because cuemakers should want a happy , satisfied customer .
