Previous to Jun 24th this year, total number of competitive (vs opponent) games of 14.1 I’d played = 2. That date I started a non-handicapped league, race to 125 each match, now 10 total games.
The DCC two years ago I’d watched the challenge. It sparked a little bit of interest however after a couple/three weeks, fizzled. Most recently, the DCC and then the Expo ‘reignited’ me to play the challenge format and ultimately join a league in Minnesota.
What I’ve learned by playing against someone is that while fun and challenging, I think a number posted in a challenge format (at my level) is so different than playing an opponent and the higher run there seems much more difficult to achieve.
I can say in the 8 weeks of league, I’m improving by observing an opponent. Videos are great, watching pro’s: fantastic. Watching someone at my level and better but not pro level is also important. It helps me to see something in my own context. A pro executes a pattern perfectly from my perspective and can touch a corner ball with exacting precision or smash the rack as desired.
Playing closer to my level makes me grimace when “my” break ball gets played and forces me to rethink should I be fortunate enough to get back to the table during the rack.
Maybe I learn better from mistakes, so a shout out: Mr. 400, if you would be so kind as to make one or two mistakes in your next match…
Actually, I’d settle for you being mic’d up talk to yourself. Is that selfish of me?
Bump me up on the 2013 list, I ran 35 last night in my match, personal best. Now my quest is 50 by 50… and I will make it. Under 6 months to be before my 50th bday.
