AZE said:They want it more - that's all. I'm not saying that there isn't any American's that want it just as bad, but they don't have as many high caliber players all around to learn from (and the hi-cals don't teach for free), because there are so many more people over there who just WANT it.
That's my opinion... for right now.
this might happen with the women as well ,in the future.jay helfert said:Not only do they want it more and are willing to travel to chase the dream, they are BETTER players! Sorry, but it's a fact. The filipinos play a little better brand of pool today than any American players. Rodney, Corey and Johnny are the best we can muster. And they wouldn't match up well with the three top filipinos (or any of the top ten).
In the same week, Kiamco and Gabica dominated a bar table tourney full of top American players and Alcano and Orcullo did the same to a world class field in Dubai on big tables. Better get used to it, because it may only get worse (or better depending on your point of view). The only player I see in the states who has a chance to break this cycle is Shane. He is willing to do whatever it takes to be a top player.
I don't see one other young player who is as motivaterd as Shane. And that's a shame. And this is part of the problem over here. Our top players do not appear to be as motivated to play pool as the filipinos. And it shows up in the results.

Hey, no pain no gain. Sure, he would lose some money at first but the experience and knowledge he will gain will be priceless. Then, when he comes back here, he can be even better than he currrently is right now.

jay helfert said:Funny you bring that up. Shane is planning such a trip in the near future. This is what I mean by motivation. It will take the top level players to beat Shane over there. He is no mark by any means.
f210 said:Hope he proceeds with his plan in the near future. Between Taiwan and the Philippines, he would be better off in the Philippines. Since a lot of people over there speak English and are quite hospitable, he would have less trouble communicating. I think he would not have a lot of trouble matching up with Efren, Bustamante, Orcullo, Alcano, etc. I remember reading Roy's story (or is that his friend?)about playing with Efren in cheap money games and Efren jumping up and down while running around the table to celebrate that small victory after the game is finish. They really love pool over there.

obviously it is in his/her interest to milk filipino wins as much as possible.
But if I could play good enough to beat Efren, I would certainly NOT match up with him at any
cost. To do so and win would hurt or even kill future action. My point here is that because
someone refuses to match up with them, does not prove anything. Brag while you can though
while it lasts, the conditions are perfect now to do so.

whether i sell a book or not is immaterial, it is an established fact that filipinos have been garnering enough victories in pool tournaments lately...as jay helfert puts it " we can't deny the fact that they had been ahead among their peers".....![]()
