9 Americans
7 Filipinos
6 Brits
4 Germans
2 Fins
2 Dutch
1 Spanish
1 French
1 Italian
1 Swiss
1 Australian
1 Taiwanese

A couple of comments...

* Germans are well represented, even without Hohmann. How can you go wrong with Ortmann, Engert, Souquet, and Schmidt?

* I'm sure all of Taiwan is rooting for Hsia. Does anyone know where he ranks compared to the other Taiwanese superstars? I'm guessing not even close to the top 5. Scary if all the Taiwanese stars participate. It's only a matter of time before you see Chao, Yang, Kuo, etc. participate in these Open tournaments, especially now that the owner of the IPT is Asian.

* Separating by continent (and grouping Hann as part of Europe), there are 9 (North) Americans, 8 Asians, and 19 Europeans. As a continent, the Europeans are dominating.

* Quiz...What country (counting Great Britain as one country) has maintained the highest percentage of its players going into the final 36? Answer...Switzerland, 1/1 - 100%, Jungo is the only representative of Switzerland. Second place...Finland, 2/3 - 67%, Immonen and Lohtander still alive, with Juva out after Round 2. Third place...Philippines, 7/12 - 58%. Honorable mention...Spain 1/2 - 50%, Netherlands 2/4 - 50%, Germany 4/10 - 40%.

I have to mention this

During Vegas and this tournament, I have come across 'flags' I didn't know wondering what country it was, and where I could go to find out.

Well, as an example of not seeing the trees because of the forest, I discovered on 'The Score' window that simply holding your cursor on a flag without pushing anything on your mouse a flag (comment) now comes up telling you what country the flag is. I have never noticed this before, did they just sneak this mod in?

wow...what's the percentage for US? how many americans started out, btw?

It's just basic HTML programming - If you hold you mouse over almost any graphical image on a well programmed website you'll see similar text appearing. (For examply hold it over the AZBilliards logo at the top of this page)

One thing I don't like is that the IPT have not managed to post any information (other than their country) on players who have qualified for the tournament rather than being pre-existing IPT card holders. This is especially noticable with unknowns (At least on the US circuit) like Karl Boyes.

A little less than 10%. The Americans started out with 94 entries.
The Filipinos started out with 12 and they're now down to 7...

I think the Canadians got hurt by Alex defection to the Philippines, LOL. Hmm, I heard Montal is also Filipino by blood. Good thing you guys are showing some love for him or he might also defect.

Don't leave out Pei Wei Chang, runner up in the 2004 WPC and winner of the gold medal at the World Games. He might just be the best of the Taiwanese. He impressed me far more than Kuo at the BCA Open this year.

From 400 players it's now down to 18..
Here are the TOP 4 breakdown of players per country in the last 18

Philippines 4
USA 4
Germany 3
England 2

Bustamante counts as a German too, right? :D Thos Germans can sure run racks. I'm going to move to Germany for a spell to learn how to break and run right after I take up residence in the Philippines. Maybe I can rent a room from Efren :)

Final 18

Interesting to note that only 5 players of this tournament's final 18 were also part of last tournament's (NA Open) final 18...

Reyes
Orcullo
Souquet
Bustamante
Pagulayan

I'm actually surprised there aren't more from last tournament's final 18 returning (most especially Manalo, Hohmann, Alcano).

I do recall someone on Az saying less than half won't be the same, hmm how who was that? :D

i think the US is doing better this year, with 4 players still remaining. how many were left in the last 18 in the NA?
It's also telling how consistent the filipinos are as a group. We're seeing the same 4 guys again - reyes, django, alex, and dennis.
good showing also by england. how many started out in this group? I think they might have the best percentage now. Or is it the germans?

The Americans started out with 94, they're now down to 4, about 4%. The Germans were originally 12, now down to 3, or 25%, which is not bad at all. The Filipinos have 12 entries, and they're now down to 4 which is the best percentage among the large contingents. That's 33%. The Brits started with 16, and they're down to 2, go figure it out yourself! :D

The list of Taiwanese players that could potntially play on the IPT is seemingly endless, beyond the Chao's and Wu's there are many many unknowns that play some incredible pool.

Just to make a point the American's will never have a huge percentage at this points simply because they make up such a high percentage of the field. If 94 Filipinos or Germans entered there might not be many if any more in the last 18.

Correct...people get too hung up on nationality anyway. I equate half of the the posts in these threads to something like "my dad can beat up your dad" type posturing.

P.S. Ralf is going to win.;)
