We are now down to the final 8. Here are the matches for tomorow:

http://www.wpa-pool.com/index.asp?content=localnews&newsid=77

Bracket A

Joven Bustamante (PHI) vs. Thomas Engert (GER)

Dennis Orcullo (PHI) vs Marcus Chamet (SWE)

Bracket B

Ronnie Alcano (PHI) vs. Elvis Calasang (PHI)

Niels Feijen (NED) vs. Nick Van Den Berg (NED)

There are 4 Filipinos, 2 Dutch, 1 German and 1 from Sweden. If you noticed, 2 of the Filipinos are relatively unknown players who fared better than their more famous countrymen like Efren Reyes, Corteza and Francisco Bustamante. Elvis Calasang just beat Hui-Kai Hsia 10 to 6 in the last 16.

Care to make any predictions on who will be in the final 4 and who will meet each other in the finals on Thursday?

I think it will be Niels, Alcano, Orcollo and Engert advancing. I think i like Engert advancing in bracket A and Niels in bracket B, with Niels for the win.

I pick Orcullo and Engert to advance in Bracket A. I would not discount a possibility of Joven Bustamante winning over Engert though. He beat another German, Oliver Ortmann, earlier in the tournament.

For bracket B, I fancy Alcano and Niels Feijen advancing.

For the finals, I predict an Orcullo vs Alcano all Filipino finals. This is a toss-up because Alcano would like to become the 2nd player to win both the 9ball and 8ball divisions. On the other hand, Orcullo wants to prove that he is not just a money player but a good tournament players as well.

Do Elvis and Joven work in EUA? OFW Power!!!!

I'll Take:

Bustamante (I know it's not Django)
Chamat (Underdog? Methinks not)
Alcano (Playing like a god)
Feijen (Like his style)

for $1000 Alex

I think it will be Engert & Alcano in bracket A and Orcollo & Van Den Berg in bracket B.

Engert will win in bracket A and Alcano will win in bracket B.

Alcano FTW.

I like Engert to go all the way, he is unstoppable when he get's into stroke.

Surprisingly to most, I like Nick v/d Berg over Feijen. I think Nick's 8-ball is very good, I've seen him run the set out in EPC from the lag, 8 racks in a row. His poor opponent never got out of his seat.

Actually, it's funny that you say that, because that's where the name for pocket billiards came from.
I never knew that - looked it up in Wiki

Thanks

Yes, if he wins, Ronnie will be the 2nd player to win the WPC 9ball and 8ball crowns in the same year after boy wonder Wu Chia did it in 2005. But Efren was the first player to win the WPC 9ball (1999) and 8ball (2004) divisions, though not in the same year.

Sorry, the statement is inaccurate, forgot that Ronnie won the 9ball last year.

I'll bet every $$$ that I've got, that a Filipino will be in the Last 4. Any takers. ;)

Kidding aside, I think Engert, Orcullo, Alcano and Neils will be in the Last 4.

It could be an all Filipino in the 1,2,3 places. All of these guys get so focused during this time that you would think that they are on a trance when they are playing. You'll never hear a word spoken during these matches!!

It's a toss-up among these guys; whoever gets the breaks or rolls will definitely grab the crown.

Unofficially, here is my prediction:
1. Dennis Orcullo
2. Ronnie Alcano
3. Joven Bustamante

However, may the best player wins!!!
