Well, it's time to take this sub-forum down (in a day or two), so some final observations.
Many, many thanks to ALL who participated. To those who didn't (to their eternal shame), "Grow some nads, and get in the game next year."
Specific thanks to ChefJeff for compiling. I did a TERRIBLE job of directing - this DCC thing was extremely time-consuming and was started way too late in the year. I apologize profusely, I was intending to post frequently and help whip those non-playing slugs into a participatory frenzy - maybe next year.
Thanks to ChefJeff, sniper, breakup, DaveK and all who tried to cajole, insult, persuade, and influence the non-players in various ways. It was all in fun, and to any who were offended by our jocularity, I say, "tough s$%^, get in the game, I think we covered all the acceptable excuses for non-participation."
I found that this tournament was EXTREMELY similar to the AZB room situation. Many players were very reluctant/shy/afraid to come and play. Those who overcame their reservations were rewarded with fun, camaraderie, and some new friends.
I also was ECSTATIC that the Q-Skills Challenge found its way to the DCC for the Thursday night Giveaway. It confirmed all of my suspicions regarding the game itself. Tough equipment makes the game HARD with a capital H. Even good players will have a tough time with the game if they have tough equipment or if they are unfamiliar with the finer points of the strategy. Tommy T and I were the only ones with perfect 20's in 15 racks ( 8 players, 2 racks apiece, my second rack was unfinished because I clinched the victory with only a few balls); even though I felt at least 6 of the 8 players were better than me (at least at shotmaking). This game is tougher than it looks. I hope EVERYONE who didn't win the event will feel badly that they didn't compete in the DMHT, and we look forward to you joining us next year (or conversely to questioning your manhood again should you decline to participate, we'll have a good time either way).
