Finish Question

UV is superior to the latter but more expensive as you probably know ... Light , controller , booth , the appropriate compounds , but very fast, mere seconds ... a word of caution , if your cue is not sealed properly the UV will not adhere and will crack and chip off as seen on McDermott's and others who use this product ... If sealed properly it cures fast and hard and is durable... A little more difficult to mirror out the finish ... Most use emron , like SouthWest cues or Auto Chrome , or something similar ...Also a hard durable finish , easy to work with and repair, but very deadly to your health, so take appropriate precautions ...

I have acrylic rings in the butt of a cue. Will the UV adhere to the acrylic or will I have problems?

You need to use a sealer that will stick to all parts of the cue and that the U.V. will stick to. I have found that the U.V. itself will not stick to phenolics so a good sealer is needed. I've been using a great sealer that is a two-part epoxy that is sprayed on. It sticks to most everything and U.V. sticks good to it but it is very expensive. It can only be purchased at one place in FL and it has a short shelf life. I get a gallon of part A and a gallon of part B with shipping is around 185.00. I only use a quart or so before it goes bad so that makes it around a 185.00 a quart. The stuff I use is called Koa Wood Sealer and is made by Axon. If you happen to live near the place in FL so you can pick it up instead of paying the 65.00 or so on shipping and just by a Quart of A and B it really works good and it would be reasonably priced.
